Squirt11es Thoughts

My thoughts are quick this week as I've been busy building (insert k money hands) and enjoying the summer weather.

As we get deeper into the bear market I find myself coding more and more. It relates to one of my main beliefs I have about web3. We will have casual users who don’t know they are using crypto and then you will have the superusers, aka us all.

The people interacting with smart contracts and weeding through all these horrible free mints is no different than setting up your own network with dialup back in the day. Scavenging torrent websites for software keys and shortcuts on the internet.

If you are a superuser, find ways to build with the people around you, find ways to make the space better. If any of us wants to see the value of our bags increase it takes hours on top of hours of work and brain power to build better products.

Lastly, let's remember that the goal of crypto is to be your own bank. Be in full control of your assets and not let others take your crypto. Get your keys off centralized exchanges and put them into a hardware wallet yesterday.

Enjoy the ride everyone! Next 10 years are going to be wild. See you on the otherside.

HEALTH IN WEB3 - This week was an actual blur. A lot of that had to do with a weird wrist flair up I had that began during the Graveyard Shift last week. To be honest, it was a much needed wakeup call. Health is something that gets overlooked time and time again within the space and it was having a direct negative impact on my life. This past week has had me focus in much more on the simple things: Exercise, proper hydration, and cutting out most sugar. These things may seem easy, but when you’ve been conditioned by bad habits to ignore these important factors it catches up to you. I’ve felt different this week, but it is a great start to a new me.

BORED TV- As I stated last week I have begun a journey of talking more Bored Ape with a few fellow apes: BRYTE & A-Raving-Ape
It has been a blast to have a few streams and get to talk more about the ecosystem as a whole and really peel back some layers on the Otherdeeds. The key here is to drive exploration and intrigue to the Otherside as we all build together. We will be interviewing holders and builders within Web3 with a focus on the metaverse and more specifically the Otherside. I hope you join in on the ride.

MEMBERSHIP NFTs - We’ve talked about this a number of times on the Graveyard Shift and it has been on my mind once again: How badass are membership NFTs? I mean think about it. You can tie real life Web2 type companies with a Web3 type membership that can last forever. I love the idea of creating and building a collective community that gets to enjoy some real life utility however that may be. Shoutout to Rebud and what they are doing with marijuana ordering and distribution as they continue to expand. It also made me think about an NFT that came out a year ago that I was interviewed for.
The basis of this NFT was a Beer For Life token that could be purchased by patrons of the Denver Beer Co. It sold, via auction, for 4.33 ETH, which at the time was $9,200. I truly believe this is a play that will continue to expand as more and more companies dip their toes into the space to create this Web3 family. Read more here: Beer For Life

OTHERSIDE FIRST TRIP- OMG. I mean honestly it blew me away. I realize that some of this was reskinning game that they have been building for some time, but my goodness. I was not expecting so much to do on the very first trip. I am already looking forward to the amazing things that we will be able to take part in as the Otherside develops. I can guarantee you that people would much rather go to the Otherside than sit in discord all day talking. I’ve also got my eyes peeled for that first concert in the Otherside. I truly cannot wait to see what’s next.

Thoughts while Traveling

I used to be a big proponent of Education in this space. Although it’s important, there are other things that need to be addressed before we throw the bulk of the burden on the user and demand they DYOR.

Take flying for instance. There is a lot we don’t need to know in order to board a plane for travel. There is some light onboarding, extra assistance available (when needed), but other parts we often ignore. Very few read the booklets in front of the seats or pay attention to the droning of the stewardess on safety before take-off. That information only becomes relevant when the plane crashes.

Operating a crypto wallet and using it to seamlessly sign into and access websites and dapps, without memorizing multiple logins and passwords, should be something a child and your grandmother can do. The day-to-day operations should be easy to navigate, not easy to compromise. If we crashed our planes as often as wallets and users were compromised we would still be using boats and automobiles.

Shout-Out this Week

Gamestop Marketplace is something to take notice of. Educational materials, their own wallet, as well as allowing for metamask etc. Integration into not just twitter, but also Reddit (which addressed a key target audience: r/Wallstreetbets). Utilizing Layer 2s and making transactions cost no more than .21 cents USD. I was able to purchase a couple $4 comics and each one was about .18-.20 cents USD in gas.

Otherside First Trip was incredible. “The King’s Alpha” as the cool kids would say, was the litepaper drop they snuck out after it finished. https://otherside.xyz/litepaper#the-agora

Honestly take notes of the way in which they demo and tested things. Creating a scripted interactive experience with good voice work, that made it fun while experiencing Otherside. I have full confidence in Yuga and Improbable to deliver what they are seeking out to build and it’s just a matter of time.

Lastly I want to shout out VaynerX’s offshoot VaynerNFT which rebranded to Vayner3 this week. I am biased on the rebrand and what they are doing, as I’m honored to be part of the experience and have an incredible leadership team guiding us like Avery:
