Learn How to Build on The Graph with Figment’s 101 Pathway

The original post was on Figment’s Blog 👇

Figment Learn is the fastest way for developers to learn how to build on Web 3. We are excited to announce a new 101 Pathway teaching developers how to build on The Graph. Our 101 pathways provide developers with basic knowledge to get started, developer tutorials, and opportunities to be rewarded for community contributions. Why Build on The Graph?

The Graph is an indexing protocol providing access to data from blockchains and storage networks that were once hard to access. To make decentralized indexing possible, The Graph introduced Subgraphs. Subgraphs are open APIs that allow developers to efficiently query, or access data from, blockchains. Most developers want to focus on building their dapp, DEX, or NFT platform, but in most cases, the success of their project depends on accessing and retrieving blockchain data. Accessing blockchain data across chains can be hard and time-consuming, but The Graph solves that pain point for developers.

At this time there are over 160 indexers and 8,300+ subgraphs hosted on The Graph. The subgraphs hosted on The Graph range from extremely complex smart contracts, DeFi applications, NFT projects, and more. Popular examples include Uniswap, Livepeer, and SushiSwap

Advantages of building on The Graph:

  1. Easy to index data from Ethereum: The Graph is an indexing protocol allowing developers to query data from blockchain networks like Ethereum. To query blockchain data, developers build open APIs called subgraphs, in which they specify the data they want to be collected by The Graph.
  2. **Major focus on developer & user experience: **To help developers build their subgraphs, The Graph offers an extensive suite of developer tools like the Subgraph Studio. The Subgraph Studio is a free hosted environment where developers can build, test and deploy subgraphs prior to launch. Developers can get started today by checking out The Graph tutorials on Figment Learn here.
  3. Built to scale for mass adoption: The Graph is designed and developed for mass adoption across the Web 3 ecosystem. The Graph began its journey with Ethereum but has plans to launch on NEAR, Solana, and others soon. Developers will be able to access multi-blockchain data all from one place using The Graph.
  4. Decentralized & secure: The Graph recently launched a permissionless and decentralized network that allows anyone to build applications powered by public infrastructure. This gives developers access to blockchain data without having to manage their own infrastructure or trust a centralized provider

Why Figment Learn?

At Figment, we care about the long-term growth and longevity of the Web 3 ecosystem, which is why we launched Figment Learn. Figment Learn is designed as a step-by-step process for developers to learn Web 3 with our 101 Protocol Pathways. \

Figment Learn Provides Developers with:

  • Free and easy access to the protocols necessary to power their applications via DataHub, our highly available read/write node and enriched API infrastructure.
  • Access to written and streamable educational materials and a diverse community built around learning and fostering ecosystem development
  • Opportunities for developers to earn tokens by contributing to the community, building applications, and participating in tutorial contests/ hackathons.\

The Graph 101 Pathway

The Graph 101 Pathway is an interactive and engaging way to learn how to build on The Graph. Developers will have a suite of tutorials available that will help act as a guide to build & deploy their first subgraph from scratch, even with no prior experience with The Graph.

The Graph 101 Pathway will teach developers how to:

  • Set up a local Graph node
  • Scaffold a subgraph
  • Edit the subgraph’s manifest, schema, and mappings
  • Deploy the subgraph locally and start making queries from the UI\

The 101 Pathway is just the first step in your journey to learning The Graph. Interested to earn while learning The Graph? Experienced developers can earn $500 in GRT for all accepted tutorials that will be featured on Figment Learn. Fill out this form to get started.

What to Expect

We are excited to bring a new 101 pathway simplifying Web 3 and the benefits of building open APIs and querying blockchain data with The Graph.

Blockchain communities built around developers and education create a strong foundation for ecosystem growth. Together, we can build a better Internet.
