How is Star Atlas shaping up?

A note from the CEO’s Desk : Carl Sagan states, “Since, in the long run, every planetary civilization will be endangered by impacts from space, every surviving civilization is obliged to become spacefaring — not because of exploratory or romantic zeal, but for the most practical reason imaginable: staying alive… If our long-term survival is at stake, we have a basic responsibility to our species to venture to other worlds.”

I don’t know what the year 2620 has in store for us. The world of today feels considerably different from the world of yesterday, and yester-year, and beyond. I assume it will be considerably different in the years to follow. A primary goal of our team is to immerse you in many possible worlds of tomorrow. In the conceivable future, you will have the opportunity to live a life almost indiscernible from your own — a virtual life. This alternate reality will pose many of the same risks as normal life. In fact, a base Metaverse will often begin as a simulation of reality. The beauty, however, is that a Metaverse is not constrained by the physics, time, and dimensions of reality.

Of the many strategic elements of Star Atlas, selecting your friends, and inherently your foes, is amongst the most important. The Metaverse consists of three core factions (MUD, ONI, USTUR), with sub-sector Security Zones within each. All races of characters will be able to exist with one-another, though faction selections will be a little more…persistent. Security Zones will be of the highest importance to monitor.

Most importantly, the Metaverse is not about what is created for you, but rather what is created by you. This alternative reality opens endless opportunities. Star Atlas is a virtual gaming metaverse based in the year 2620. In this distant future, three major factions have emerged; 1. The MUD Territory governed by humankind, 2. The ONI Region as a consortium of alien races, and 3. Sentient androids control the Ustur Sector. These factions are in an ongoing struggle for resources, territorial conquest, and political domination.
