The Details

1. Join the PoolTogether Discord [ https://pooltogether.com/discord ]. And follow the channel [ https://discord.com/channels/629836507280048129/1017013641138159676 ].

2. In order to participate in the tournament, you do not have to PAY anything. You do, however, have to utilize the PoolTogether protocol’s savings pool on the Optimism Network. Details on how to do this are below.

3. After depositing to PoolTogether, you will need to delegate your tickets to the Tournament Multisig address [ 0x52ABCD330FAF476f97e5CEDF0823C826DfF4060d ] for the month of September (the end of the delegation should be 10/1/2022). Details on how to do this are below.

4. After depositing and delegating, you will need to officially enter the tournament by filling out this Google Form [ https://tinyurl.com/SettleTogetherForm ]. You will need to enter your Discord name and the address you used to deposit/delegate so that the delegation can be confirmed. Once the delegation is confirmed, you are officially in the tournament!

5. Play games on colonist.io between now and 11:59pm EDT, Friday, September 16, 2022 against other tournament members. After you have completed your delegation, use the PoolTogether Discord channel [ https://discord.com/channels/629836507280048129/1017013641138159676 ] to set up games with other people in the tournament. You do not have to do this, but your total VP earned over the first three (3) games you play versus other people in the tournament will be used to determine your seed for the tournament. More details regarding this are below.

6. Once your seed is determined, the Tournament Bracket will be compiled by Illpo. The tournament will be held over the course of the next two weeks, from Sunday, September 18, 2022, through Friday, September 30, 2022. The winner of the tournament will receive 100% of the Optimism (OP) tokens earned over the course of the month of September by the Multisig through PoolTogether’s OP rewards program. Also, ALL of the prize winnings won by the Multisig address from regular daily prize drawings will be won by the tournament winner. More details regarding this are below.

The Greater-Detail Details

1. Join the PoolTogether Discord [ https://pooltogether.com/discord ]. And follow the channel [ https://discord.com/channels/629836507280048129/1017013641138159676 ].

   The PoolTogether SettleTogether Discord channel [ https://discord.com/channels/629836507280048129/1017013641138159676 ] will be the main hub for the administration of the Tournament. It is important that you join the channel so that you can submit your game results, get help with any part of the process if you need it, and coordinate with other tournament participants.

2. In order to participate in the tournament, you do not have to PAY anything. You do, however, have to utilize the PoolTogether protocol’s savings pool on the Optimism Network.

   PoolTogether is a no-loss savings protocol. It works by pooling the deposits of a lot of people and distributing a specified number of “prizes” to a few of the participants in the pool. This allows people to save while having an opportunity to win a portion of the interest earned on the deposits through daily drawings. PoolTogether allows only USDC depostis at this time. Each 1 USDC deposited into the protocol gives the depositor 1 “Ticket”, or 1 entry into the daily prize drawings. Each ticket is entered into the daily raffle where the interest earned on the total deposits in the PoolTogether pool are distributed to the winners by random drawing.

   To participate in the Tournament, you have to:

   1. Deposit AT LEAST $100 USDC to the PoolTogether Protocol on the Optimism Layer 2.

   2. Delegate and Lock AT LEAST $100 USDC to the Tournament Multisig address, and lock the delegation FOR 23 DAYS (the duration of the tournament).

   If you do not have any USDC on Optimism, you will need to bridge a small amount of ETH (to cover your gas costs) and at least $100 USDC to Optimism (or just bridge some ETH and then exchange some for $100 USDC on an exchange like Uniswap [ https://app.uniswap.org/#/swap?chain=optimism ]).

   After you have some ETH and $100 USDC on Optimism, you will need to connect your Wallet (i.e. Metamask) and deposit $100 USDC into the PoolTogether smart contract here: https://app.pooltogether.com/account?network=optimism

3. After you have deposited your $100 USDC into PoolTogether, you will need to Delegate your $100 to the Multisig address [ 0x52ABCD330FAF476f97e5CEDF0823C826DfF4060d ] and Lock the delegation until October 1, 2022. You can do that here: https://app.pooltogether.com/account?network=optimism (Under the Deposits section, click the Optimism banner, then click More Info, then you should see this:

   Connect your Wallet by clicking the button. Once connected, click the New Delegation button:

   The following screen will pop up. Enter the Multisig address [ 0x52ABCD330FAF476f97e5CEDF0823C826DfF4060d ] in the DELEGATEE field. Put 100 in the AMOUNT field, and then put 23 in the OPTIONAL LOCK DURATION field. Click Queue Creation, complete the transaction, and you are ready to fill out the Google Form [ https://tinyurl.com/SettleTogetherForm ] so you can be entered in the Tournament and be eligible for the POAP at the end of the Tournament!

4. Once you have completed the Delegation, you will need to fill out the Google Form [ https://tinyurl.com/SettleTogetherForm ] so that your deposit and delegation can be verified. WHEN YOU DELEGATE, YOU DO NOT GIVE YOUR USDC/TICKETS TO ANYONE. YOU DO, HOWEVER, GIVE UP YOUR CHANCES TO WIN THE RAFFLE PRIZES BASED ON YOUR TICKETS, AND YOU GIVE UP THE OPTIMISM REWARDS THAT ACCRUE TO THOSE TICKETS (Those go to the winner of the Tournament!).

   AT NO POINT DO TOURNAMENT PARTICIPANTS GIVE AWAY OWNERSHIP OF THEIR TOKENS OR THEIR PRIVATE KEYS. No one with good intentions will send you a private message unless you contact them first. If someone does this, DO NOT REPLY to them. Instead, use the public Discord channels for help. Anyone who contacts you privately will be trying to scam you or steal your assets.

   PoolTogether was awarded OP tokens from Optimism to incentivize more people to utilize the Optimism Layer 2. As just mentioned, when you Delegate, you give your chances to win to the Multisig address (you do NOT give away your tokens!). Once you have delegated your $100 USDC to the Multisig address, the Multisig address will start to accrue OP rewards commensurate with the amount of USDC it is delegated. Also, as soon as there are Delegations to the Multisig address, that address will also be eligible to win daily prizes from the prize drawings.

   These are the two sources of the Tournament Grand Prize that goes to the winner: accrued OP rewards, and any prizes won by the Multisig address during the course of the Tournament. In addition, EVERY VERIFIED PARTICIPANT IN THE TOURNAMENT WILL RECEIVE AN INAUGURAL TOURNAMENT POAP!!

5. You are all signed up and ready to take home the VICTORY! But, you should get your seed first!

   THE SEEDING ROUND IS NOT REQUIRED! HOWEVER, IT IS RECOMMENDED! Here is how you get your tournament seed:

   Play games on colonist.io between now and 11:59pm EDT, Friday, September 16, 2022 against other tournament members. Use the PoolTogether Discord channel (link above) to set up games with other people in the tournament. You do not have to do this, but your total VP earned over the first three (3) games you play versus other people in the tournament will be used to determine your seed for the tournament. There are no set times to look for playing partners, but if you put your time zone into the form, times with multiple people will be tagged in the Discord channel. However, YOU CAN PLAY ANYTIME YOU CAN FIND PLAYING PARTNERS.

   Here’s how to do it:

   1. Go to colonist.io

   2. Click on the green Create Game button

   3. Quickly check the Private Game box (kick out anyone that joins before you share the link with others in the Discord channel by clicking the little X by their name)

   4. Set the game to the default first-round tournament settings by changing the Max Players to 3 in the drop-down menu and clicking the box under Friendly Robber

   5. Copy the URL at the top of the Game Settings screen (format will be like this: https://colonist.io/#Crnw )

   6. Share the URL in Discord channel and invite people to join the game you created

   7. Once the game is full, everyone should identify themselves in the chat by their Discord name (just copy and paste your Discord handle there).

   8. When everyone has shared their Discord name, take/save a screenshot of it.

   9. Everyone click the I’m Ready box, and the person who created the game will click Start Game to kick things off.

   10. Play the game!

   11. When someone wins, take a screen capture of the final results.

   12. Submit the two images to the Discord channel.

   The Tournament Administrator (Illpo) will record the results of the FIRST THREE GAMES ONLY that each person plays. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF VICTORY POINTS YOU GAIN IN TOTAL OVER THE THREE GAMES WILL DETERMINE YOUR SEED FOR THE DOUBLE-ELIMINATION TOURNAMENT. If there is a tie for total number of VPs at any seed position, the higher seed goes to the player who submitted the results their 3 games FIRST. So, get those 3 games completed and submitted!

   The deadline for completing and submitting seeding-round games on colonist.io is 11:59pm EDT, Friday, September 16, 2022. If you don’t complete and submit any seeding-round games but HAVE entered the Tournament via the Google Form and been verified, you will be seeded as the lowest seed in the bracket (along with anyone else with the same seeding status).

   It is encouraged to play MORE than 3 games for several reasons. First, it gives you practice interacting with the dynamics of the game on colonist.io (highly recommended if you have never played there before) since it takes a few games to figure out how all the controls work – and there is a time limit per move. Second, you’ll get some experience playing against people who will be in the tournament. And, thirdly, you will help other people looking to get their 3 seed-qualifying games finished, even if you have already gotten yours submitted!

6. Once your seed is determined, the Tournament Bracket will be compiled by Illpo. The tournament will be held over the course of the next two weeks, from Sunday, September 18, 2022, through Friday, September 30, 2022. The winner of the tournament will receive 100% of the Optimism (OP) tokens earned over the course of the month of September by the Multisig through PoolTogether’s OP rewards program. Also, ALL of the prize winnings won by the Multisig address from regular daily prize drawings will be won by the tournament winner.

   Depending on the number of people that sign up, there will be up to 27, 54, 81, or 108 participants. This inaugural tournament will be capped at a maximum of 108 participants, so sign up as soon as you can!

   The Bracket will be released by Illpo on the Discord on September 17, 2022 (exact time TBD!).

Tournament Format and Rules

The Tournament will consist of 4 rounds (and 1 sudden death round, if necessary). People who come in 3rd in Rounds 1 & 2 are eliminated because of losing to two other players. If players tie for second place in Rounds 1 or 2, they should immediately play a sudden-death 2 player game between the two of them to determine the winner and loser. The results of the sudden-death elimination game should be submitted as described above, as well.

The format for sudden death games is as follows:

If there is a tie for second place, the two losing players should click on the REMATCH button after screenshots of the results are captured. After the two players re-enter the room, the game should already be marked as Private Game. The player with admin privileges should then change the settings to match the image above. When the settings are correct, both players should click I’m Ready and the admin player will click Start Game. If a player ties and fails to immediately enter the rematch or leaves, that player forfeits.

The Tournament Bracket format is pictured in the image below. In Rounds 1 & 2, the 3rd place finisher in each game is eliminated, except for the WILD CARD. The player whose Round 1 & Round 2 combined scores are the highest will be awarded a WILD CARD and move to the Consolation Round 2 as the lowest seeded player. Tie Break for the WILD CARD if there are two players with the same score will again be determined by the submission time of the player. The player whose game submissions come in FIRST will be awarded the WILD CARD spot (so, get those games completed and submitted!). BOTH the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in Round 3 will move to the Consolation Round 2. Because of the WILD CARD slot, you should try your hardest to score as many VPs as you can in every game, even if you feel like you can’t win the game outright.

In Round 4, the winners of the three Consolation Round 2 games will move on to the final round. Each of those three players will have 1 loss, while there will be one player with 0 losses. If the player with 0 losses wins that round, he wins the tournament outright. If one of the other players wins, there will be a sudden death game between the two players with only 1 loss.

Each player in the Tournament is expected to uphold the integrity of the game and continue to play to win the game, even if the odds of winning make winning unlikely before the game has ended. Trades made to intentionally harm another player instead of trying to improve your own position in the game are not allowed. If a dispute arises over trading practices (i.e. one person trades 3 Ores and 2 Wheat for a single Sheep, for example, when gaining a Sheep doesn’t materially advance the player’s position in the game) evidence of the trade should be submitted to the Tournament Administrator (Illpo) on Discord. If it is determined that the trade was made unjustly to swing the game toward one of the other players and away from one of the other players WITHOUT MATERIAL BENEFIT TO THE TRADER, this violates the spirit of the game and the Tournament, and will be considered cheating. In such case, BOTH THE INITIATOR OF THE TRADE AND THE TRADER will be disqualified, and the victim of the cheating/unethical behavior will move on to the following round, regardless of the final score of the game. Play fair, people!

The Friendly Robber setting will be used for all rounds of the tournament for two main reasons. First, this setting smooths out luck imbalances at the very beginning of the game and emphasizes skill. Second, it speeds up the game play by allowing quicker progression of each game, which will help the Tournament progress toward completion. The Friendly Robber setting specifies that the Robber cannot be placed on a resource tile that blocks a person with only 2 Victory Points. Once a player reaches 3 VPs, the Robber can then be placed on one of their tiles, and a resource can be stolen from them.

Each round of the Tournament will have 4 days to be completed if 27 or less people sign up**. The GRAND FINALE WILL HAPPEN ON EITHER FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2022 OR SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2022 (Exact time TBD).
Seeding Games: September 9th thru September 16th
Round 1: September 17th thru Sept 20st
Round 2 & Consolation Round 1: Sept 21st thru Sept 24th
Round 3 & Consolation Round 2: Sept 25th thru Sept 29th
FINAL: Sept 30th or October 1st

**if more people sign up, each round of the tournament will need to be compressed to fewer days to allow for an additional round prior to the final championship round.

It is of paramount importance to work with the other players and find a time for your match that accommodates the schedules of all players. ANY TIME THAT WORKS FOR ALL PLAYERS CAN BE UTILIZED! Communicate with the players in your match, and do your best to find a time that works. If a consensus time cannot be worked out between all the players, THE EXPECTED TIME TO PLAY WILL BE 8:00pm EDT. If a player doesn’t show up for the match, that player will forfeit, and the remaining two players will play a sudden death game to see who moves on and who loses.

Everyone is welcome to play, and we’d love to see people from many different DAOs come and represent their DAO in the tournament (but, you do not need to be part of a DAO to enter)! If you are representing your DAO, be sure to let us know in the Google Form when you sign up, and that will be reflected by your name in the official bracket! Share this with your friends!
