Why I decided to Co-initiate an Association for Regenerative Finance in Switzerland

A blog post on sharing ideas, the value of community, and collaboration.

When I published my article on Regenerative Art, I got in touch with a project that had just started, and they are selling NFTs to plant trees. I saw that they had some issues with their marketing. This project has great value (they plant 100 trees per NFT sold), so I immediately offered to give them feedback and input on their project.

I often get great advice from people because they share my values and understand that the greater good is more important than short-term benefits. With my experience in marketing, I am happy to give back when I can. Sharing with your network and growing together is important because you always get "project blind" when working on something. Sometimes you miss the most obvious opportunity to improve, or you need to look into some mistake you made but didn't see yourself. Feedback from our networks helps us grow faster while still in a somewhat safe environment. It is safer than making the same mistakes when customers or other third parties are involved. I felt good because I want to keep some balance between giving and receiving from my network. And I feel validated in my position as someone who understands marketing. When I worked as a consultant, I advised a broad spectrum of early-stage companies.

Part of my expertise was in supporting community building for my clients. I learned about the great value a dedicated community of users and followers can have. Their feedback is precious if processed the right way. It felt good to be part of that and orchestrate people around a common purpose. This has sensitized me to interact with communities and taught me to value them. When starting my career, I often got great advice from my mentors. I often thought I wanted to be the same, a source of inspiration for someone, when I absorbed all that knowledge from the people I value. Passing on know-how is a very empowering feeling.

The most important values are the right mix of community and competence when growing together to solve substantial-scale problems. When I was younger, I used to think that solving big problems in isolation was the way to go. I feared sharing my ideas because I thought somebody could steal them. Growing older, I learned that everyone has enough on their plates to steal anyone else's ideas. Ideas are lovely, but they are worthless; execution is everything! I wanted to create a space or platform where the local actors in Regenerative Finance (or regens, as we call them) in Switzerland could interact and share their insights about this young and emerging movement. As a founder and CEO of a company that reflects the values of ReFi, I want to have a strong community that I can interact with for feedback and inspiration and to find the right partners for collaboration.

As an aligned community, we can prove competence when we talk to partners outside the ReFi/Web3 ecosystem and gain their trust for our innovative approaches with leading-edge technology. Driven by the same purpose and values, we can grow ReFi to become a trend that catches on in traditional markets and ensure the world stays safe for us all.
