What is Regenerative Finance—a Brief Introduction to ReFi

ReFi is an emerging trend in the Web3 space. You might have read about it and asked yourself, “WTF is ReFi?” Here is an attempt to explain ReFi in simple terms. WIP

Regenerative Finance (ReFi) Aims to Use Money as a Tool, Not a Goal.

Traditional finance (TradFi) aims to accumulate wealth. In contrast, regenerative finance aims to bring money into circulation with the proper purpose.

We Want to Build Shared Value

The ReFi movement supports changemakers and equips them with the capital needed to do good while earning money. Doing good while making money means aligning economic (human) wealth and natural ecosystems’ well-being.

Local Mission—Global Vision

The global hive mind ultimately solves local problems to tackle the large-scale problems arising from climate change. Web3 (blockchain, decentralized governance, and so on) works as a connector and tool for the movement. Frictionless, decentralized, intermediary-free integration of communication, management, and ownership while providing maximal resilience and transparency are the advantages of using Web3.

Regenerative Agriculture—an Analogy

Regenerative agriculture is a good analogy: Innovation led from exploitative to sustainable farming. The latest development is directed at regenerative agriculture to regenerate depleted ecosystems and integrate them with the needs of the local population beyond delivering food, e.g., sustaining or growing biodiversity, clean water and air, and a pleasant living environment.
