Decentralized Finance (DeFi)

• Wintermute's founder and CEO, Evgeny Gaevoy, revealed in a series of tweets that the company's decentralized finance operations had been compromised, but not the centralized finance or over-the-counter verticals.

• Mid-sized bitcoin mining and infrastructure companies in North America, Canada, and Australia will be able to access secured loan funding through Icebreaker Finance's new pool.

• A price manipulation vulnerability was used on the decentralized exchange (DEX) GMX, and the exploiter was able to profit between 500k and 700k from the Avalanche (AVAX)/USD market.

Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

• Opensea now supports Ethereum layer 2 scaling solution, Arbitrum.

• OpenSea announced the adoption of the OpenRarity protocol, which offers NFTs rarity estimates.

• In order to help consumers find the greatest prices from their preferred creators, Coinbase NFT will now display listings from a variety of marketplaces, including Opensea and Looksrare.

• “Honey-pot” NFT collections trick collectors into buying worthless NFTs.

• Following the injunction against GoDaddy won by Ethereum Name Service (ENS), http://eth.link is once again operational.

Metaverse

• Simon Kertonegoro, the CEO of MyMetaverse, and Oscar Franklin Tan, the chief financial officer of blockchain gaming company Enjin, discussed how they were able to integrate NFTs into Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto 5 servers in an interview with Cointelegraph.

Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs)

• Vitalik Buterin published “DAOs are not corporations: where decentralization in autonomous organizations matters”

• The Uniswap Foundation has revealed the recipients of its first round of grants, totaling about $1.8 million, and distributed across 14 projects.

• Helium will be moving to the Solana blockchain. HIP 70 passes with 80%+ approval.

Decentralized Identities (DIDs)

• Coinbase launched cd.id, a free-to-claim web3 username.

• A new Web3 identification primitive called Humanbound lets smart contract-based applications interact securely with users' identities while preserving their privacy by storing data off-chain.

Web 2 evolving into Web 3

• Nasdaq, the second-largest stock exchange in the world, is getting ready to provide institutional investors cryptocurrency custody services.

• The USDC stablecoin has been added to Robinhood Markets' list of cryptocurrencies available to retail traders.

• Inca Digital, a provider of data analytics for digital assets, has a one-year contract with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to investigate the effects of digital assets on national security.

Weaving Web 3

• FV Bank has announced the introduction of a new service that enables users of its accounts to deposit money directly into its U.S. currency accounts in USDC.

• A hacker stole $3.3 million from several Ethereum addresses created using the tool Profanity.

• Support for Elrond will be added to Opera's Crypto Browser.

• T-Mobile and Nova Labs have joined together to develop Helium Mobile, a new 5G cellular service.

• USDT Transfers on Polygon and Avalanche Networks are now available on Binance U.S.

U.S. Laws and Regulations

• Colorado is the first U.S. state to accept bitcoin for tax payments.

• A two-year moratorium on new algorithmic stablecoins may be proposed in the House of Representatives of the United States.

• In a case that claims Tether conspired to release the stablecoin as part of an effort to raise the price of Bitcoin, a U.S. judge in New York has ordered Tether to provide financial information pertaining to the backing of USDT.

• Custodia Bank receives support from Republican lawmakers in its legal battle against the Federal Reserve to obtain a master account.

• The M.Y. Safra Bank will be required to provide information on any customers who may have failed to record and pay taxes on cryptocurrency transactions made through premier dealer SFOX.

• bZeroX and its founders Tom Bean and Kyle Kistner were charged by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for offering leveraged and margined retail commodity transactions in digital assets without authorization and for failing to implement a customer identification program as part of a Bank Secrecy Act compliance program, as required of FCMs.

• The SEC asserted that it believes the U.S. government has jurisdiction over all Ethereum transactions in a civil case brought against a crypto influencer.

International Laws and Regulations

• The complete language of the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation has been finalized by the European Union. Once MiCA is enacted into law, issuers of crypto assets will be required to publish white papers providing roadmaps, platforms will be required to register with the government, and stablecoin issuers will be required to hold capital and be sensibly managed.

• By successfully registering with the Dutch Central Bank, Coinbase becomes the first significant worldwide cryptocurrency exchange that can provide products and services to the Dutch market.

• Valour will introduce its new Carbon Neutral Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Product (ETP) on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

• The UK has introduced a bill to speed up and simplify crypto seizure procedures.

• The first cryptocurrency company in the nation to be granted a license by the Capital Markets Authority is the Israeli-based cryptocurrency exchange Bits of Gold.
