Description

Year of Dogs is a four-piece band made up by long-time friends, Nic van Graan (vocals), Themba Bosch (guitar), and brothers Alex Birns (drums) and Dillon Birns (bass). Their sound draws influences from the likes of Tame Impala, Tom Misch, Mac Demarco, Parcels and various French house disco groups such as Paradis and French Kiwi Juice (FKJ).

Biography

hey! we’re year of dogs: an indie band from cape town, south africa, made up by long time friends, nic van graan (vocals) & themba bosch (guitar), and brothers, dillon birns (bass) & alex birns (drums). what kind of indie you ask? we’re still working that out ourselves - but we’re inspired by a melting pot of genres including: alt-pop, funk, disco, nu-jazz, psych and dance music.

we came together at the beginning of 2020 and were able to play one small show before the world went into lockdown. bummed, but not disheartened, we started writing music together over zoom. these projects turned into goofy lockdown videos, and later that year - when we were finally able to start recording - became the building blocks of the singles you can hear today. it was the first time any of us had properly worked in a studio, and we were delighted to be taken under the wing of up-and-coming producer from HONEYMOAN, josh berry.

we’ve been over the moon with the response to our music so far, and simply cannot wait for you to hear the next few releases landing soon.
