User eXperience in Web3.

Every time I help new friends diving into crypto serves as a friendly reminder on how disastrous Web3 User Experience (UX) is.

« What are those 12 words? I thought everything was dematerialized and you’re telling me my entire invest rely on that scrap of paper.. »

They always doubtful when I tell them it relies on high level cryptography and actually, I understand them: it’s just a paper that can be easily lost.

The worst thing is that this first insight through wallet installation is just the tip of the iceberg: newcomers will struggle to understand how to interact with decentralized Applications (dApps), how to pay gas efficiently, how to on-ramp/off-ramp fiat, how to bridge cryptos between different blockchains, how to create NFTs, how to get their wallet back if they loose your computer…

Because nothing is optimized for them - from the User Interface (UI) to the wording, everything look impenetrable for inexperienced people.

Let’s remind that Ethereum is actually a decentralized and permissionless App Store - It should be as easy to interact with dApps as downloading an app on your iPhone.

The gas fee experience... It is completely counterintuitive - On blockchain, we have to pay gas every time we do something. For me, it’s feel the same as if we were paying for gas every time we stop at the red light and we restart. I’m pretty sure we would all pay a monthly subscription for a smart contract that pay it for us, making web3 surfing frictionless.

The classic web is social and... Surprise! Web3 will be too. It is what drives adoption. As of today, over the 4.6 bn internet users, 4.2 bn are active on social media. We are 5m monthly active users on web3 - we’re still sooo early - but we still can’t interact with each other without using web2 mainstream websites.

Wallets must be thought as our next way of connecting with each other in a permissionless and frictionless way; so push notifications (tired of being liquidated without even knowing it…) and a chat service should be the next web3 part to focus on.

This industry is attracting the very best technical people of the world. That’s so bullish for the crypto-world.

But what we highly need right now is talents from more creative fields: marketing, UXUI, graphic designers etc..
