KaramelaDAO community roundup vol. 1: Genesis

From Genesis to DAOCracy to the KaramelaDAO

It’s kind of amazing how a community of people from different countries, with really diverse backgrounds but a common passion for technology and WEB3.0 managed to ‘sit-down’ and create the sweetest DAO on the Metaverse.

End-November 2021 and @jonromero comes up with the idea of a DAO. Little did he expect that this idea would end up gathering a community of amazing people from all walks of life and backgrounds to build this DAO.

Their common denominator? Their desire to learn and be part of the WEB3.0 era.

And behold the sweetest of the DAO’s on the MetaVerse was born!

Mission / Vision and other Ideas

One of the most active topics of discussion is the mission/vision of the KaramelaDAO.

Shall the DAO be for-profit? Or maybe non-profit?

After lengthy debates and multiple productive meetings we now know that KaramelaDAO will be a for profit organization with strong ties to the community and with the goal of giving back to the community.

The purpose, our DAO’s ‘raison d’etre’, the core, its ‘Why’, is still being debated but as more people participate and contribute ideas, we get closer and closer to having something cool.

Something that makes everyone excited and will ensure the long prosperity of the DAO.

Here are some of the initial project ideas discussed:

  • DAO operates as a quasi Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) that will create a Health and Habitat Community (it's like a decentralized private equity)
  • DAO operates as a learning tool and provides learning courses / consulting on technology, finance, web3.0, etc

Governance / Citizenship / Logistics

KaramelaDAO will have 300 full citizens in the beginning and potentially add more as time goes by and projects and the community need to scale.

Congrats to GRZontan and BigManDrewskii for being awarded the first two Citizenships in KaramelaoDAO.

Congrats also to Elsa and vapastas for being the first historians of the KaramelaDAO with half citizenship each. And as they are of Greek origin, they can be considered as Thucydides 3.0!

There have also been some interesting conversations around governance, i.e. what’s the role of the treasurers or other DAO critical roles, how are they elected, what are their responsibilities, accountability, etc. These topics need to be discussed further and reach a schema that is fair and in-line with the principles of the DAO. A pattern that ensures a DAO by everyone for everyone! In a transparent and equitable manner.

Finally, there were some interesting discussions around majorities as far as decision making is concerned and some potentially bad actors acquiring the majority voting power (>50%) by buying the NFTs in the open market.

An inclusive approach is the baseline of our DAO’s values but it is still to be seen how efficient and constructive this can be. Hence, as far as the Governance of our DAO is concerned, we are still trying to figure out how we can sail ahead but without leaving anyone behind! Individual influencers would not have a place in our DAO and accountability is an underpinning factor. Liability has been a concern in the governance of existing DAOs and KaramelaDAO is willing to explore options on how to develop an agile decision-making body while ensuring that the best interests of its community are served in an accountable manner.**

Heard on the Sweet Sweet DAO

“Being a member of the DAO, and actually one of the first citizens definitely is a great feeling. I am really happy that the DAO's identity took form by my own understanding of art and branding design. I love creating brands and logos and seeing them become one with their people is something unique and remarkable. I also always wanted to join a DAO, learn more about the whole blockchain/web3/crypto world, engage more in communities and escape the typical type of "work". I am more than happy to represent the brand artistically and I can't wait for the dope things that we're discussing to become reality.”

-- BigManDrewskii (logo artist)

"Being a newbie in the realm of cryptos and web.3, the best way to learn is hands-on! When I found out about Jon's initiative, I immediately went for it! It is very exciting and for someone with a legal background that is curious to understand how web.3, cryptos and DLTs/BC work, onboarding a DAO spaceship is the best way to learn how this ship is constructed and navigated. On the other hand, I am excited to share my knowledge on legal and governance aspects as these are issues that for the moment are highly debatable in the world of DAOs. Both techies and legal can hugely benefit from each other and build a unique environment where everyone is a winner!"

-- Elsa (historian)

"As someone who believes that the constant in life is change, I am really excited to see where all this new technology is going to lead us over the next decades. DAOs are here to disrupt the way we work and interact as a society and there is no better way to learn more about it than joining the coolest and sweetest DAO on the metaverse”

-- Vapastas (historian)
