Introduction:
Here's a recap of the insightful dialogue from Klein Labs' recent space event on the topic "Exploring the Intersection of AI and Web3: Strategies, Challenges, and Future Opportunities", held on Nov. 16th 1:00 p.m. UTC.
This discussion session brought together representatives from various projects related to AI and Web3 technologies. These projects span a wide range of domains including featuring Legend of Arcadia, King Data, DFINITY, XRender AI, PublicAI, demonstrating the extensive potential applications of AI and Web3 across diverse fields.
The discussion centered around the integration of AI and Web3, exploring how these two technologies enhance and complement each other in various projects. They focused on decentralized AI development, the projects showcased the unique value and application scenarios of combining AI with Web3. These projects also highlighted the challenges currently faced in integrating AI with Web3, such as the demand for computational power, managing large data sets, and governance issues of AI models in a decentralized environment.
Recap:
1.Guest Self-Introduction and Project Overview
Legend of Arcadia: a free to play to earn casual strategic action card game that combines traditional gaming with web3 features. LA uses NFT toy heroes with unique skills and items that players strategically place on the battlefield.
King Data: specialized in web3 data exchange and community building for crypto exchanges and blockchain media. They have over 600,000 registered users across 90+ communities. They are considering integrating AI technology into their products.
REYIELD: an AI investment platform that makes complex professional investment tools simple through AI. Rio aims to offer users personal financial advisors and easy access to various crypto investment strategies.
DFINITY: focused on enabling a decentralized future for web services on blockchain. ICP provides computation, storage and bandwidth in a decentralized manner ideal for web3 developers. They set up a $5 million fund to support decentralized AI development on ICP.
PublicAI: a decentralized AI data infrastructure. PublicAI establishes a blockchain-based trainer marketplace, facilitating data labeling by trainers to generate the data needed for AI models while providing trainers an income stream.
XRender AI: an AI powered NFT creation and trading platform. It provides tools to easily create unique NFTs from text or images with no design/coding needed. Render AI also offers multi-chain minting and trading features.
2.Projects Q&A Session
Legend of Arcadia: how AI and web3 have a "symbiotic and mutually reinforcing relationship" in the context of the Legend Arcadia game, with AI enhancing the gaming experience and web3 enabling player ownership.
DFINITY: the need for decentralization to enable data security and sovereignty as a prerequisite for AI development.
XRender AI: AI and web3 having a "synergistic relationship", with AI improving efficiency/effectiveness of web3 apps and web3 providing a decentralized platform for AI.
DFINITY: Dfinity's $5 million decentralised AI (Dai) developer grant to encourage developers to build AI/ML applications using ICP's smart contracts. He also mentions Dfinity plans to add native AI capabilities to ICP's network in the next 18-24 months by creating subnets optimized for GPUs to support AI computations on-chain.
Legend of Arcadia: Legend of Arcadia's development of an AI bot to handle community questions. The bot is designed to sound human-like and named after an in-game character to appear more approachable. He believes AI bots can revolutionize gaming by providing 24/7 community support.
DFINITY: highlighted several emerging AI applications being built on ICP:
Dmail (dmail.ai) - Email service using chatGPT to suggest ideas when drafting emails.
EMC - Building an AI marketplace for buying/selling AI computation power using GPUs.
Etoka - Music streaming service analyzing user data to provide recommendations.
IC2P&LLM - Running large language models natively within ICP smart contracts, proving feasibility of on-chain AI.
DaVinci AI Assistant - Chatbot service using open source language models.
He stated these are still in early stages, but show the potential for AI applications due to ICP's unique ability to provide computation, storage and bandwidth on-chain in a decentralized environment.
REYIELD: a key challenge is the computational power needed to train AI models. As an example, training their reinforcement learning model for optimization takes 3 days on their existing resources. Lack of affordable computing power slows down development.
Xrender AI: echoed the computational complexity of AI models for tasks like training and inference. She also discusses the data-driven nature of AI models - needing vast datasets which is challenging in a decentralized web3 context. Additional complexities exist around governing decisions for AI models in a decentralized ecosystem regarding updates, identifying biases, performance evaluation etc.
PublicAI: Midjourney and ChatGPT are two impactful products that have brought AI to the forefront of public awareness due to their power and simplicity.
PublicAI: how web3's fundamental value is removing middlemen and guaranteeing quality through technologies like zero knowledge proofs that protect privacy. This builds trust and a new economy model where creators directly capture value from their work rather than middlemen. He believes combining this with AI for services like data labeling can bring benefits over existing centralized providers.
REYIELD: how the key difference between web2 and web3 is data accessibility. He explains how on web3, transaction data is public and includes details about the wallets involved, allowing tracking of all transactions associated with a wallet. He believes this extra dimension of data could empower more accurate AI trading bots on web3 compared to web2.
3. Summary
The intersection of AI and web3 represents tremendous potential, but is still in early stages. Key opportunities exist in AI improving web3 application efficiency and experience, while web3 provides more secure data infrastructure for developing AI models. However, technical barriers around computational power, distributed data, and decentralized governance remain. Though complex to navigate, the transparency and participation ethos of web3 could accelerate AI for social benefit rather than concentration of power. Exciting times are ahead but progress requires proactive collaboration across these domains.
