Sometimes, to talk about depression or depressed thematics is not welcomed in our discussions. We tend to consider depression as a weakness, a taboo and this since a very long time, so long I cannot even tell you. And maybe that’s why it is still something humans struggle to manage and talk about. But while we struggle inside ourselves, most of thus try to export this pain through our passions.
Tjo is one of the humans who struggled with depression and contrary to most of us, it is not a subject he is afraid to talk about.
In one of his threads on his Twitter page, he tells a bit of his childhood and his journey through mental illness.
Starting with OCD / pure O, it was not a subject he would naturally talk about in his family or even consider himself.
Through his Art, he translates his thoughts and feelings about these dark thematics (mental Illness, depression etc) into masterpieces from the making to the outcome.
The elements used,
The colours chosen,
The characters,
The nuances
Everything is put at a certain place in order to create not a drawing or a piece…
But an interpretation, a reflection of a darker side of life.
During nightmares for some or during days for others.
But why do I assume that his works are masterpieces?
I see in his pieces:
Purety,
Serenity and
Beauty.
The kind of Purity that I would see in a sea.
Or Serenity that I would experience in a nice dream.
The Beauty that I would appreciate in a nice and sweat face.
But here it is not about seas, nice dreams or sweat faces ...
It is about traumatizes, nightmares, depression.
And Tjo has this unique capacity to use wonderful colors and elements to express his message.
Blue
or
BLeU pour les intimes
I don’t know if his favorite color is blue, but he’s been clear about only dedicating his art to this color. He managed to create a movement, a current of thought, a conductive line and a mirror to everybody who dares to face his artworks.
We could relate in many ways with his interpretations, through different contexts and I don’t think we need a specific passion for art.
We all have dark feelings.
Some people are violent, other are not.
We represent and manifest violence in so different ways that a simple picture cannot include all our different perceptions ad experiences of nightmares.
But we all relate to colors, characters, expressions, routines etc.
Everything that engages our senses.
When I admire some of his works, it remembers me the story of The Candyman because of the contrast between the main character and the idea that reflects the environment or its representation.
I think we all know the story of The Candyman.
I Hope !*
If not, just remember that you shouldn't say "Candyman" five times into a mirror and you can find more about the story here.
Even if the candyman is a fiction story and does not relate to our theme, I find it interesting how once again one of the best way to interpret or represent some darker or mysterious pictures is by using a mirror.
While mirrors can certainly relate to perfection and light, the reflection of light on human bodies create shadows.
Shadows that for me, can easily be related to mirrors.
So hiding and taking for weaknesses our mental issues mean that we are turning the mirror away from us, and this does not solve the issue but only bring more shadows around us.
To face magnificent pieces translating an experience or a nightmare that I could have is also a way to remember that these are things that are common to everybody and we need to be inspired and externalize our feelings.
Personally, my favourite colour is blue, for a very classic reason you can find on Google. Blue symbolizes the sky and the sea and is associated with open spaces, freedom, sensitivity. It also represents depth, sincerity, wisdom, stability, and intelligence. Source
I perfectly agree with this definition since it is something that I experience personally unconsciously and I think it is a color that represents me and my personality.
Although my perception of blue is very different from the representation of this color in the artworks of Tjo, as I said before, I can still relate and identify myself in his works and for me, that’s a strength that the greatest artists have.
To use the elements of the universe to translate their minds and impact others with their own philosophy.
However his utilization of Blue is not incomprehensible.
As stated in this article, Blue also symbolizes depression and the depth of the human psyches.
I find it very interesting and cute.
If I had to resume what the color Blue represents in one world, I would say Fragility
.
Fragility can be interpreted as a vulnerability or a weakness but it also means uncertainty.
Uncertainty in moods
Uncertainty in feelings
The universe is made of uncertainties. We don’t know what tomorrow will be made of.
We are uncertainty. We have diverse opinions on our origin, our creation, our existence.
We are the most complex creatures on earth.
We still have a lot of time to fully understand our body and metabolism.
So why our brain and thoughts should be certain ?
Why it hasn’t get the right to experience darker thoughts or different perceptions ?
How to fight something and win over it if you don’t face it first ?
We need more people to express themselves through their passions and let’s escape their thoughts.
We are all creators. We create through our experiences and inspirations.
It helps us grow, realize our achievements and improve in our personal development while helping others. Our society have been glorifying great minds since the start, it helped our communities have references and grow but !
Great does not mean Perfect.
I’m Leicheze.
I’m a passionate of Art, Writing and Web3.
From now on, I will share with you my favorite Web3 Artists on this mirror page.
Tjo is the first one, and it has been a huge pleasure to write about him and how I feel about his work.
I hope you enjoyed it, I would love to receive your feedbacks on this article and how you find Tjo’s artworks.
We could think that the Art in itself does its own marketing and promotion. What could have been true, but I do not think so.
And certainly not in the Web3 space.
Where the high level of uncertainty and young ecosystem make it difficult for investors and creators to stay consistent.
Nevertheless, it is not the case of Tjo, by always being active and loyal to his community he created a strong link and commitment between the collectors.
He does not only put together collectors but also other artists that are inspired by his works and his vibe.
It’s the Blue Effect.
Through his discord, he can spend more quality time with his community by participating in community calls and community chat.
A channel created for Art sharing permits to the Art lovers and creators to share their collections and crushing. And a specific channel has been created for on-the-chain trading between the community, this reinforce the link between the members.
You can find his flagship work Bleu on SuperRare. It is owned by bingintvault for 69.420 ETH.
This piece in itself symbolizes the universe of Tjo, his perception of blue and the world where he wants to bring us.
In this world, there are many characters.
The representations go from indistinct faces like spiritual bodies. As you can see at the bottom left of this work, I perceive a transmutation from a human body, it can be interpreted as a travel, an exit from a natural and ordinary state to another deeper and malicious state.
This is my only escape ----- , and so I cannot stop
The characters can go darker and darker or put in different contexts but you would still recognize the vibe that each of the characters got from the start.
It feels like these drawings that I call characters could be some emotions that the Artist wanted to translate or some nightmares, memories but one thing is sure, each one has its own story and identity.
On Opensea, we can find his collection One night only that introduces a new female character apparently close to one of the main character of BLeU.
Tjo has launched a new challenge these past weeks named Cold Shower Challenge, in which he created new ways to engage with his community and give them values.
I personally think he still has a huge margin of success in his incredible career and he is going to achieve huge things while stay committed to his philosophy and values.
His imagination got no limit. He is able to transform every element of life in his world.
Razor blade is a wonderful example how he turned an iPhone Pic of a break in his wall into such an art piece.
He symbolizes in a way the reflection on a room, a Bleu room as he explained.
And there is everything in this room, good memories or love stories passing by trahison and vengeance. Solitude and self destruction are themes that are not shown in the light, but also well illustrated in the Bleu room.
Finally what is the Bleu room ?
I think it is life, a state. Bleu represents peace and serenity but also the depth of the human psyches. Bleu represents everything, everything we gulped down our mind and being.
With un vent d’hiver, the Bleu room dies with harmonious, evasive and penetrating scenes, memories, dreams or nightmares from someone who decided to break a box.
Tjo puts an end the Bleu room and open a new chapter in his adventure.
But he leaves behind an open book of Blue enthusiasts who share his vision and to whom he gave the opportunity to express using his storytelling and universe.
Thank you for reading me till the end, it is the first of many articles about web3 artists that I like. I hope you enjoyed reading and discovering the BLeU universe.
You can share your thoughts and contact me on my twitter page.
By collecting this article, you support me and take a seat in my new journey.
I let you with my favorite work from Tjo here.
All Love !
