Hello, My Name is Lion

“I’m a web3 music artist. Finding my way through the new creator economy. Where music is the utility. The artist is the platform. The middleman is cut out. Fans, collectors, and investors have direct communication to the artist.

There is no single path and no one is an expert. We are pioneers blazing a trail through the blockchain. Join me on this journey.

I’m excited for this new technology. It’s a whole new sandbox with new tools and playthings emerging all the time. I want to make music you’ve never heard before.

I want to create new ways of experiencing music. I want to find new ways of interacting with the people who enjoy what I do. If you want to support that, I will try to create value for you the fan, collector, or investor. Perhaps you are all three.”

Tell us a little about yourself?

I’m from Portland, Oregon. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and a minor in Fine Art. I lived in Tel Aviv, Israel for four years while I got my Master’s in Archaeology. Along with all of that, I have been creating my whole life. I am always working on some project or song or whatever. My normal state is having more ideas than time to do them. I hope that by utilizing web3 technology, I will be able to make some of these projects come to life.

Why did you choose the name Lion?

I chose the name Lion because at first, I was shy to release my music on social media and SoundCloud. I was the shy lamb and Lion was going to be the brave confident one. I also thought it would be funny to be a vegan lion. I had tried other names in the past but I fell in love with the character I created. When I got started in web3, it fit really well into the whole PFP phenomenon in crypto Twitter. Originally, it was going to be an anonymous project but now I am started the rethink that part of it, might have to doxx.

Now, I have a growth mindset. I am constantly improving and getting better with every creative endeavor.

What kind of music do you make?

I started making music in high school on my computer. Inspired by DJ Shadow’s Entroducing album, I started sampling my grandma’s record collection and putting beats over the top. I taught myself how to use FL Studio. The music I make now is primarily sample based. I try out various genres but I feel hip-hip is a big influence.

Even in my early days, I was creating a set of songs with a theme or concept in mind. Sometimes it was a whole LP, other times just a few songs came out. I have largely continued in this way. With my future releases, I will try to brand and package them together as best I can. The new technology in web3 allows one to create and package music in entirely new ways and I am excited to experiment in this space.

After learning how to make decent beats I started to write songs to them. It was challenging at first but I found a method that works for me. I usually make the music first and freestyle over the top then go back and refine the lyrics. I have written lyrics out and the music is in my head and I try to recreate it but it’s a bit more challenging doing it that way.

Why web3?

I had done some promoting of my music on various platforms. I had met some people on there that were nice and supportive but web3 really does have a great community. Also, I believe in the technology. I see it transforming how we do things on a profound level. It is a new set of tools that has endless possibilities and is fun to play around with. We are early and we can create something that no one has done before and that is really cool.

I am about to announce my project called: Lion Demos. Actually, I’ve already started it. In fact, this blog post is Catalogue Release #3 (LD 1 003 5).
