The State of Cosmos - Q4 2022
September 18th, 2022

Even though the market is still rough, we’ve seen good price action on Cosmos in the last week compared to other assets such as ETH. It went up from $11 to $16.

What happened to Cosmos? Here’s the hopium you need to know

Interchain Security is Coming 🔜🔜🔜

Launching an app chain is costly, you need to set up validators and pay them with high token emission. It’s been a barrier to building an app chain since the day-1.

Interchain Security will solve this issue.

Upcoming app chains could utilize Cosmos Hub security (worth more than $3.5 billion) in their chains. These confirmed Consumer Chain are; @Neutron_org and @quicksilverzone

I believe other zones will do the same. @osmosiszone on their Medium said that Osmosis security would come from Cosmos Hub once ICS is implemented.

ICS has a significant effect, not only in terms of security but also on $ATOM utility. Projects will pay fewer fees to secure their chain and Cosmos staking yield could be a ‘real-yield, noninflationary reward’.

The staking rewards will come from Consumer Chain. So, ATOM holers will get $ATOM from Cosmos Hub transactions and tokens from Consumer Chains’ activities

According to the roadmap, ICS is gonna live in January 2023

$ATOM Liquid Staking Wars is Heating Up 🔥🔥🔥

Previously, to earn rewards on $ATOM you either stake it or use it to provide LP on a DEX. It’s a hard choice. However, with Liquid Staking you can do both.

The War of Liquid Staking on Cosmos is begun.

Two projects on the battlefield seeking to dominate the pie are @quicksilverzone and @stride_zone

Stride has already been live for weeks now and its TVL reached almost $10 million

While Quicksilvers postponed its launch because some issues need to be addressed first. Security first!

Stablecoin Powered by $ATOM is Real 💲💲💲+

Even though the Cosmos ecosystem is growing rapidly, the sad news is we don’t have native and decentralized stablecoins on Cosmos.

Currently, we use bridged-stablecoin from Axelar such as axlUSDC/T which is prone to censorship as that stablecoin is centralized. This is quite concerning (do you still remember the blacklisted USDC because some addresses have interacted with Tornado cash?)

As one of the critical infrastructures of DeFi, the need for decentralized stablecoins is high for the Cosmos ecosystem to flourish.

These are protocols that build a decentralized stablecoin on Cosmos:

  • $USK from @teamkujira (live)

  • $CMST from @Composite_Money (testnet)

  • $IST from @inter_protocol (building)

$ATOM 2.0 👀👀👀

Last but not least, I guess people are on fire because of the upcoming announcement of $ATOM 2.0.

I don’t have much info regarding the changes from the old Cosmos to the new Cosmos. It’ll be announced on @CosmoverseHQ.

But one thing for sure, it’ll include changes on Atom Monetary Policy, Public Goods, and Interchain Services. that we should keep an eye on

That’s it! I hope you enjoy today’s writing.
