Life and work

Alda do Espirito Santo – São Tomé and Príncipe (1926/2010). Alda Neves da Graça do Espírito Santo is a poet from São Tomé. His life is also linked to active citizenship movements and political intervention.

Her poetry is of a nationalist origin, denouncing the colonial situation, from the song to the symbol-figures of colonial resistance: the contractor burning life in the cocoa and coffee fields, the uprooted contractor, the Angolar and the Woman, symbol of the Earth and Mother.
