The Church of Santo António do Estoril, or Igreja Matriz do Estoril, was built by the Order of São Francisco, in the place where an old wooden chapel dedicated to São Roque stood in 1527. The churchyard and cross area of the new church were built over a small chapel dedicated to Santo António, which had been commissioned by Leonor Fernandes, owner of Casal do Estoril.
The 1755 earthquake almost completely destroyed the church building, and its reconstruction began three years later. In 1927, the temple was again destroyed following a major fire, having been rebuilt again.
In the current church, the ceiling painted by Carlos Bonvalot stands out, as well as the tile panels with motifs from the life of Saint Anthony.
