Monolithic Dream(s) is a collage series that uses ai generated source material. Here is a rant and ramble to help you understand my motivations behind this project¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The seeds of the project began in 2021 when I was initially just toying around with the demos showing off how you could generate images using GANs. As I got further and further into finding different colab notebooks, and how to generate images that I could actually use there was a consistent dream-like quality that really reminded me of my own dreams.

Ever since I was a teenager my dreams have had some level of lucidity involved at best, and at the least are just very vivid dreams. A lot of my work, whether its music, video art, or collage sort of always deals with this in some way or another.

A Lot of the first two seasons and potentially the third and fourth as well, come from a stretch of time at the beginning of the year where i was just constantly generating images in midjourney, at first just entering in very vague prompts like “90s magazine ad”, rarely guiding it with any artist names or names of any magazines especially at first. This worked for a while at first just being entertaining and kind of inspiring, but once I figured out I could just prompt with images alone I developed a workflow that mostly relied on sessions of the vague prompting to generate some style guidance, and then mixing these images with digital photos i was taking on my phone. Eventually just getting to the point where I was just using my own images to prompt, still using an ai generated image as a style guide, and sometimes using one or two of the same paintings for style guidance. By the time I sort of got burnt out by generating images constantly I was using the blend feature.

I started collaging with ai source material almost as soon as i caught a rhythm and figured out a workflow using the popular GAN based tools that were floating around in 2021, doing some small pieces on Hic et Nunc, but my focus at the time was more in 3d art. By 2023 I was seeing potential in stable diffusion, dall-e, and midjourney, but to be honest mostly for shitposty kind of purposes, i kind of expected to just make really weird memes using images i was generating, but got really into making all these different variations and mutations fit together, which brings us to the Monolithic Dream(s) series.

I don’t think the name means anything, maybe one day it will.

I plan on releasing the collages in seasons, consisting of Four (4) Free Mint Open Edition pieces that will be available to mint for One (1) month, These pieces will be staggered releases and not all available at once.
