What is Optimism?

Optimism L2 is an effective Ethereum scaling solution that allows users to run Ethereum transactions at a significantly lower cost. Optimism uses a special mechanism that merges multiple transactions into a single transaction to utilize optimistic roll-ups. And later push that transaction to another blockchain for further processing and then issues the receipts of the transaction back to Ethereum. Learn more about Optimism from here.

Airdrop

Optimism airdrop round 1 was successfully conducted in early June. On June 1, nearly 250,000 early users received the newly launched $OP token via airdrop. According to their token allocation chart, 5% of the total $OP supply was allocated for the first-round airdrop and 14% are allocated for future airdrops.

Round 1 Checklist

1. Optimism users

Address bridged to Optimism from L1 during the early phases of mainnet (prior to Jun 23, 2021) or used Optimism for more than 1 day (at least 24 hours between their first and last transaction) and made a transaction using an app (after to Jun 23, 2021).

2. Repeat optimism users

Address is an ‘Optimism User’ and made at least 1 transaction with an Optimism application across four or more distinct weeks. This selects for the top 20% of ‘Optimism Users’.

3. DAO voters

Address has either voted on or authored at least one proposal on-chain, or at least two on Snapshot (off-chain).

4. Multi-Sig signers

Address is a current signer on a multi-sig which has executed at least 10 transactions all-time (this cohort includes 95% of all multisig transactions).

5. Gitcoin donors

Address has made an on-chain donation through Gitcoin on L1. This includes any donation, regardless of if it was during a matching round.

6. Users priced out of Ethereum

Address bridged to another chain, but still made an app transaction on Ethereum in each month after they bridged, and transacted at an average rate of at least 2 per week since then (top 60% of matching addresses).

7. Use apps on optimism ecosystem

9. Participate in optimism quests and claim NFTs

Optimism recently announced its newest campaign, the ‘Quests on Optimism’ by allowing users to earn NFTs while learning how to use the most popular apps on the optimism ecosystem. There are 18 quests and 18 NFTs to be earned and you can participate and claim NFTs until 17th January 2023.

‘Optimism Quests are a simple, educational, and rewarding exploration of the Optimism app ecosystem. Just by reading about different apps and completing a short quiz and task, people will be able to mint a commemorative NFT that represents the completion of the respective quest’
