Mundo Lingo doesn’t associate itself with political movements, liberation movements, humanitarian causes, charity or statements intending to inspire compassion or empathy for international crises. Here’s why.
👈 This policy is an extension of the Mundo Lingo Philosophy
The idea of showing solidarity with fellow human beings is a beautiful one, but one that should only be done by real people, not brands. When a brand makes a statement, it may sound warm and humane, like we’re all in it together, however the reality is sometimes more sinister as illustrated by this famous tweet
Using a brand to show selective solidarity is disingenuous. Statements by Mundo Lingo should be real and consistent. If we were to show our solidarity with the victims of one injustice, then our silence to another becomes unacceptable. Mundo Lingo sees a world of a united people; valuing one human life over another contradicts our founding philosophy. To the contrary, we must not allow Mundo Lingo to be used to promote the importance of one segment of humanity over the rest, especially in pursuit of generating hollow ‘likes’.
As described above, we cannot favour one cause over another. We cannot favour one demographic over another, regardless of how clear it is that they are deserving of our collective compassion.
For the above-mentioned reasons, we cannot be involved in solidarity hashtags, nor flag placement on our branded graphics.
Our public are from many religions. Understanding this means our brand does not celebrate one religious holiday while staying quiet on another. For now, Mundo Lingo does not wish our public a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Eid Mubarak, Halloween, Patricks Day nor any other religious ceremony, because we won’t exclude those of other religions by way of silence. Our team members however absoutely can, personally as themselves, with their personal profile.
We’re a global community made up of people many of whome would call themselves “global citizens”. We barely recognise, nevermind celebrate the existence of any particular national state. Mundo Lingo does not wish the public a happy Independence day, Memorial Day, VE Day, or Australia Day. Nor days related to people such as Ghandi, any Queens or Kings, MLK, Mandela, or any liberator, politician, or head of state.
