friday night dinner 04/01

This week we’re hosting a friday night dinner for NFT LA on April 1st, at 7pm for up to 60 people.

friday night dinner is a recurring meetup for LA-based creators and collectors to chat about web3 paired with fine dining and an inviting atmosphere.

To date, we’ve hosted 12 dinners, leading up to our biggest event yet.

To reserve a seat, please contribute a minimum of 0.05 ETH per person to cover all food, open bar, and location.

We look forward to meeting you!

Backers

We’re running this experiment as a way to fund the ongoing expansion of Friday Night Dinner and to pre-emptively cover the cost of what’s expected to be our biggest turnout to date.

Here’s what you need to know.

Price: 0.05 ETH per seat. Any funds raised above the soft cap of 3 ETH will be deposited into a community treasury to be voted on and used as the community sees fit.

Includes: Sit down dinner and open bar, all dietary restrictions can be accommodated.

Location: Shared in token gated channel in the fnd discord on Wednesday 03/30.

When backing the crowdfund, you receive $NFTLA tokens in return. These tokens purely represent your contribution to the 04/01 dinner for NFT LA, but will hopefully evolve into something bigger in the future.

Thank you for your support!

fnd origins

Hi, my name is Naomie. I grew up in a pretty busy household. I was the oldest of 6 and both of my parents worked late, but we always made it a point to have dinner together on Friday nights. Our home had an open door policy, and we had guests every week- both people we knew forever and people we had never met before. Everyone was welcome. Some of my fondest memories are from these nights, just sitting around a big table with good people, good food, having good conversation.

When I started getting into web3, I hadn't really used my brain properly since college. At a certain point I was getting embarrassed by my own questions- my head started getting hot after a few hours at a time and I found myself desperate to learn, but exhausted. It's a lot of information, and almost all of your education happens online- in Discords, on Twitter, in Spaces, on YouTube, in group chats. I’m so grateful for these resources, and every single person who has lent their time and knowledge to help me develop my understanding of this space, but I was craving a proper conversation.

A friend of mine, Sammy, has been working in the web3 space for years and had tried to get me involved around summer of 2018. Because I couldn’t understand it, I said it wasn’t for me. (Stupid. Stupid stupid stupid stupid). Over 3 years later, I messaged him to apologize for being so dismissive and asked if he would be willing to spend an evening with me to answer some questions. He was kind enough to agree so I brought over a bottle of reposado, he made us empanadas, and we talked for almost 6 hours. He let me ask questions without making me feel stupid, listened to my ideas, and encouraged me throughout. I told him how helpful the time together had been for me, and asked if he would like to meet again the following week to continue our discussion. He said yes, we invited a few friends, and that was the first friday night dinner.

We’ve now hosted 12 of these dinners. All of our guests come from different places and backgrounds. Every person has unique goals, ideas, and views. Most of us meet each other for the first time at dinner, but the one thing we all share is a strong belief in the potential of web3 and its positive implications for the future in any industry.

It's been 3 months that we've been doing this, and over time it's turned into my favorite night of the week. The word 'community' is thrown around a lot in this space but the definition of it is 1) a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common, or 2) a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. This just really feels like that I guess, and if you’re interested in joining us we would love to have you! Everyone is welcome.

What’s Next?

This crowdfund is an experiment to test the waters for the growth and expansion of the fnd community.

While this first offering is solely to fund Friday’s dinner during NFT LA, we have wider ambitions of expanding the event and bringing it to other cities.

However, it’s very important that we maintain the core culture that makes friday night dinner valuable in the first place.

We want to make sure it remains a place for guests of all backgrounds to feel invited and welcomed regarding conversations about web3.

We have a lot to figure out, but we’re excited about how it’s grown, and where it will go.

To keep up with friday night dinner, join the Discord and keep an eye out for more updates to come!
