Introducing hood3 - FAQ
September 26th, 2022

What is hood3?

A map of the Otherside with a social focus. It allows holders to discover more about their deeds, such as neighbors. This is an early beta; it only works on desktop and definitely has bugs. It does not require a web3 wallet connection.

Where does the profile data come from?

It’s built on top of the Enhanced Otherside API, basically any creative place I could grab information by Ethereum address. Some sources are updated regularly. One source is ENS reverse records, as web3 matures ENS should be the primary source of decentralized profiles – it’s important we own our digital identities!

How do I update my profile data?

As an MLP (minimum lovable product) this doesn’t include any web3 wallet connection or accounts. If feedback is good and more resources invested custom profiles would be at the top of the list. For now, if you have ENS Reverse Record hood3 should pick up changes every few hours.

Why make hood3, what’s the angle?

The why is a mixture of how I research and my beliefs of how web3 should be built. When I want to truly understand a system or idea, I learn best picking a problem and building something to solve it. I have been thinking a lot lately about how our social graphs will look in an increasingly digital existence. hood3 is an exersise of this.

For web3 ethos I believe builders should follow a process of releasing an MLP (minimum lovable product) as the very first step. Web2 startups have been a grand experiment in coordination. One of the pillars of a startup is to fail and pivot as fast as possible. I believe the decentralized nature of work being introduced in web3 gives us the advantage to accelerate that. Builders can meet in the metaverse without any formal structure and begin real work immediately. They should focus on releasing an MLP in days. If it fails, they simply disband and each member finds something else to apply energy to. What takes a web2 startup months or years, burning millions in capital, the web3 can do in weeks with almost nothing. This is one reason why I believe web3 startups will eat web2, as Kevin Owocki says “It's all coordination, and it always has been.”

If the community feedback on a web3 MLP is good then that’s the time to introduce a more formal structure. That’s also the time to ask for capital, either through the community or from conventional investors. Now that I am full web3 my investment strategy changed. I won’t invest in anything that doesn’t have a MLP out. I believe people should be wary of high profile raises (including NFT collection mints) that focus on an idea (roadmap) instead of what has already been done (MLP). So back to hood3, this is just me and some advisors tossing an MLP out. Maybe something is born out of it, maybe not, either way we waste as little time and capital as possible.

Disclaimer and Warning

I am not associated in any way with Yuga Labs. I don’t collect any private data. In this early MLP there is no web3 wallet connection. I have no plans to mint, airdrop, or provide any web3 mechanic. If I ever do it will be announced on @nix_eth with at least 72 hours’ notice. It wouldn’t be a surprise or require acting fast. My DMs are always open. Be safe, don’t get scammed.
