Democratizing Media: Nodle's Integration with Filecoin

In today’s digital age, where misinformation spreads like wildfire–and the trustworthiness of the media is regularly scrutinized–ensuring the authenticity of images and videos has become increasingly vital. Nodle is stepping up to the challenge by integrating Filecoin, the leading decentralized storage platform built on  InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). Nodle is also migrating to zkSync, a layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum. These moves aim to further decentralize data storage and enhance reliability, particularly through its Click Camera app.

What is Nodle Doing?

Nodle’s integration of Filecoin is a strategic move to decentralize data storage. Filecoin, as a  pioneer decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN), provides a robust platform for storing data in a distributed manner. By leveraging Filecoin, Nodle aims to enhance its data storage infrastructure's security and reliability.

Additionally, Nodle recently announced its migration to zkSync. This upgrade allows for faster and more cost-effective transactions on the Ethereum network, enabling smoother operations for its applications, including the Click Camera app.

The Click Camera app–a flagship product of Nodle–is set to utilize zkSync to enable users to capture verified images and videos. Cryptographically signed using C2PA technology developed by Adobe and part of the Linux Foundation, these verified media files carry a unique signature that confirms their authenticity. Moreover, each image includes a recent block header from zkSync, providing further proof of its creation time.

How does it Work?

When a user captures an image with the Click Camera app:

  • The image is cryptographically signed using C2PA technology to verify its authenticity.

  • A recent block header from zkSync is included in the image's metadata, proving its creation time.

  • Nodle signs the image with the user's Ethereum key and uploads it to IPFS using Filecoin for decentralized storage. Nodle uses IPFS, and will be deploying a cold storage backup on IPFS.

  • A separate metadata file containing locations, and descriptions is uploaded to IPFS.

  • The hash of this metadata file is uploaded onto zkSync.

  • This process ensures that the captured media is securely stored in a decentralized manner while maintaining its authenticity and provenance.

Why is this Important?

Integrating Filecoin and zkSync into the Click Camera app marks a significant step towards liberating access to verifiable media. In an era of rampant misinformation and the proliferation of AI-generated content, ensuring media authenticity is essential.

Traditionally, media outlets relied on a handful of trusted photographers to capture and disseminate news. However, with the Click Camera app, anyone with a smartphone can become a trusted source of information. By empowering individuals to capture and share verified media, Click is revolutionizing how we perceive and consume content.

Moving Towards Decentralized and Secure Media Storage

Nodle’s integration of Filecoin and migration to zkSync represent a significant leap forward in the quest for decentralized and trustworthy media storage. Through the Click Camera app, Nodle is democratizing access to verifiable media, allowing individuals worldwide to contribute to the authenticity and reliability of information. In a world inundated with misinformation, initiatives like Click are indispensable in preserving the integrity of digital content.
