Product Updates: API simulator and request signatures

Our team has been very busy building over the holiday period and now we’re kicking off 2024 with our first (of many) weekly product updates. We have just released probably the most stable API version to our Sandbox environment and are happy to share our new key features.

Are we living in a simulation?

Our latest Sandbox includes a long awaited simulator functionality, which allows you to simulate production flows without invoking live systems and third-party integrations. OffBlocks API Simulator supports all operations that depend on output from external systems, such as incoming payment authorisations and customer verifications, for you to test API integration end-to-end.

Please, refer to our latest documentation on API simulator for more details and do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Building with standards

As we are dealing with user funds, one of the key requirements for the API are security and trustworthiness. We can’t leave anything to chance and need to provide you with mechanisms that ensure the highest level of security for all supported operations. API solutions have been using request signatures for quite some time, however most of them use ad-hoc non-standard tools that are not quite transparent and depend on their proprietary stack.

The industry, however diverse, has historically been encouraging builders to use common standards to ensure better adoption. After all, standardised EVM allows builders to grow the ecosystem rapidly while maintaining high levels of compatibility across applications.

We have made a conscious decision to find a more universal standard and use it, in order to ensure the highest level of support by different ecosystems and use openly available tools. OffBlocks API is now enforcing HTTP Message Signatures compliant with recent IETF specification. We believe in the future of the open internet and are embracing the open-source movement.

Please, refer to our latest API documentation to learn more about how we use HTTP Message Signatures and what tools we suggest you to use in order to remain compliant with the standard.

Final thoughts

Last but not least, our team is looking for talent! If you know any talented Frontend or Full-stack engineers looking for a new role, send them our way!
