I came across the DAO concept last year in 2021 while I was probably reading one of Melissa Henderson’s infamous “Crypto in the City” articles. Googled the antonym, digested it, and moved on. Little did I know what was to follow.
Fast forward to ETHDenver 2022 at the H.E.R. DAO Hackerhouse (shout out to Melissa - a H.E.R. DAO governor, H.E.R DAO and Harmony for the opportunity!!), where I volunteered as a House Manager. I got to interact with all the Hackers and inquired about all things crypto, blockchain and DAO’s.
Suddenly one morning, while sitting around the counter with the H.E.R. ladies savoring a cup of coffee, vegan croissants and fruit salad, it hit me that perhaps my degree in Org Development and Leadership could be put to use and possibly be the solution to my unemployment status - a common struggle for non STEM global citizens trying to break into tech. There I asked Mel, Thuy Nguyen and Yip (other H.E.R. DAO governors), ever so hopeful with my eyes gazing wide open, “Do you think that my background could be useful in the area of DAO’s?”.
That was the tipping point of what had rapidly culminated into participating in the hackathon with a winning team (Do or DAOn’ts very own Mayur Mistry and Valerie Grappendorf), joining Thuy’s H.E.R. DAO’s research lab, and gradually carving my own path while earning a source of income on my own terms someday soon.
The key words are “my own terms”. Essentially, working with a DAO means individuals have autonomy in how they operate on tasks for attaining shared interests and consequently, shared goals. Nobody will ask you for proof of degrees, experience or certification. If you have something to contribute it’s up to you to come forth and participate in building the DAO. All are welcome. From what I’m seeing, there could be a solution to a lot of unemployment problems of today. Need experience? Join a DAO and apply your skills. It’s a formidable route to get into a new field while conserving your sense of self worth and dignity. A word of caution, DAO work sucks you in and at some point it will be all you want to do and all you will think of.
An intro on the outro
My name is Sianoi and I will be bringing along my love for research, data, and knowledge on centralized organizations to grow and explore with DAO development, while writing a few pieces here and there for our education and consumption. We’ll dive into motivation, innovation, environment, capacity, leadership, performance, and so much more! Let’s enjoy this safari together.
