Hello everyone! Welcome to another article on our beloved SNS aka Sui Name Service. Today I am going to talk about SNS Domains. This is a bit of thermotical/conceptual one. Hang tight!
What are Web2 Domains?
Web2 Domains means the usual domains on the internet like, facebook.com or google.com etc. These domains uniquely identifies the IP address of the web server which we want to access. If we did not have domain names, we will have use those services by entering the relevant IP address, which is a number hard to remember. Instead of IP addresses, we get domains which are easy to remember. This is the primary goal of Web2 Domains.
What about Web3 Domains?
Web3 Domains are quite different from Web2 domains because Web3 Domains are for wallet addresses. The best example for these are ENS (Ethereum Naming Service) which is for Ethereum wallets. Instead of having to memorize a wallet address we can use the ENS domain to uniquely identify a wallet.
How does SNS Domain Fit In?
Sui Name Service is a Web3 domain service for Sui Blockchain. You will be able to register your own .sui domain for your Sui wallet address.
Is that All?
By all means NO. There are tons of use cases for SNS. No just a domain name for wallet address.
But we don’t want to just be a standard naming service that only allows you to name your wallet so that someone can send you tokens easily. Yes, we will enable that but that is just the beginning!
We want to provide an Identity service, not just a naming service.
We aim to do what no other Name Service has done before, and use our Web3 infrastructure to register Web2 domain names.
Don’t you dream about a day when you can have your own identity on web3, your own .sui username, and when someone types in that name on a browser, they land on your profile page, see all the NFTs and assets you own. A day where you can easily log into games with your own web3 Gamertag, and message each other!
