6 months before the gnarly ‘22 recession started showing it’s teeth, i was subtly prompted to think about the next 6 months critically. i thought to myself - “my partner has been such a great partner, surely they won’t pull back from what we all committed to together when we started”.
i was completely wrong. as my partners macro-world melted and they started facing their own death spiral, well shit rolls downhill 100% of the time.
i missed the signal. i am directly responsible for the cratering of my company as it death spiraled to zero over the coming months and year.
i will never make that mistake again.
what did i learn from this?
pick your partners carefully
listen carefully in the moment and act quickly
prioritize what the company needs - fuck everyone else
if it’s not working, nuke it quickly, and replace with something better (the biggest learning)
