I am trying something new, vibe blogging with my 10 year son. We are both writing on the same topic today. His blog is at utiverse.tumblr.com
Today we are going to discuss chess starts. My son and I play some chess in our spare nights. Most of the recent games have ended in a quick win for me or are long “draw”n out. He is getting better and fiestier. Some of my observations are as follows:
We both like to start in one of two predictable ways. He always plays white and I always play black. His moves and mine are almost mirror like in the start. We both will start with a king side pawn that moves two squares and if not, almost certainly the knights, sometimes both that charge up and down the field.
Once the dramatic start is done, it tends to get a little boring or too intriguing as the next set of moves take some setup. Most of the time, there maybe other pawns that move out. If you look at my board, it will most often resemble a V formation on one side, typically the queen side or be a perfect stagger one up and the other down alternating.
The real game begins when the bishop rolls out or even more if the queen does.
More about the next moves… in the next vibe blog! Note that these blogs are not written for the chess crowd, it is just an interplay between my son and I to brainstorm and have fun around how similar our thoughts are on the games that we’ve played.
So, what did you think U?
