Web3 is going to be an evolution of the current internet, a new iteration of the web, based on cryptographic technologies. It promises a decentralized, open, and boundless way of interacting amongst people.

In web3, we now have some niche applications that are aimed at crypto traders. Besides all those transactions amongst wallets and DeFi smart contracts, people's behaviors are perceived as valuable as well.  Many people perceive value when staying connected with the community, some would like to follow the hot NFT topics, some want to subscribe to content creators they like. The socializing in web3 will be linking together all the transactions and behaviors amongst multiple chains. We can easily find the information and content we want in Web3 with a better experience.

Here we share some ideas of what we think socializing could look like in web3.

Data agency

The data is created and stored by platform owners through their system in web2, they provide services to users and in return get the data generated as well as the value associated. In web3 the data agency can be individual themselves instead of a centrally managed application. Each individual is able to create a storage space that is owned and accessed by himself only. They have the choice to open part of the data in their storage space and make it public, in return they will get paybacks in terms of better recommendations or fee-based paybacks.

Ownership

Who owns the protocol? In web2, the shareholders are owning the protocol and the board is working for their interest. In web3, individuals own the protocol, they can participate in governance and act for the interest of the community. Individuals own their data. KOLs promote their own ideas and own their content, they receive subscriptions as well as donations or fees.

Empowering people

With social networking becoming more decentralized, the role of people may change. The users of Big Tech are generating data and creating value only. Now they can participate in, people can add value to and derive value from the social networking ecosystem. They will have the power to make contributions, raise proposals, vote for governance, etc. By doing so, people are taking over more responsibility from the centralized social app giants.

We need a database to store and navigate the relationships in web3, so we created one. The IC Graph is the first graph database deployed as a smart contract on blockchain.
