Case Study #2: Competition Profiling

Wouldn’t it be nice to never have competition when you are trying to sell something? The reality is that there will be competition more often than not, and this is an important consideration when evaluating a potential flip.

With RΞLAY , you can easily profile your competition in a glance before making a purchase decision. Let’s analyze one for fun!

This NFT (MAYC 4200) just showed up in the live feed for Ξ29 and is looking like a good flip with the next lowest price NFT with this rare red BAYC shirt listed for Ξ37.

Let’s take a moment and look at the other sellers and point out some examples of how valuable these data are:

Seller #1

  • Is significantly lower ranked than the new listing.
  • Has an entry price of 42.5Ξ which is significantly higher than the 29Ξ of the newly listing. If we enter into a price war, I would have the advantage.
  • Listed 7 days ago, so unless this is a stolen token, I should be cautioned that 37Ξ might not be an easy exit price for this trait currently.
  • Doesn’t seem to be a very motivated seller, otherwise he might have lowered prices more to sell faster instead of letting it sit for 7 days.

Seller #2

  • Is slightly higher rank than the new listing.
  • Has roughly the same entry price (Ξ28.99) as I would if I were to buy the new listing at 29Ξ. If we enter into a price war, I would have no advantage.
  • Listed just 5 hours ago, so can potentially be more active in checking for undercuts.
  • He can potential affect my resell price and/or timing.

Seller #3

  • Is significantly lower ranked than the new listing.
  • Has held since mint. This means that if he becomes very motivated to sell, I would most likely have to let him sell first instead of entering into an undercutting war with him.
  • Listed 5 days ago, so again it’s likely that he is not in a hurry to sell this token.

Seller #4

  • Is around the same rank as the new listing.
  • Has an entry price of 39Ξ which is significantly higher than the 29Ξ of the newly listing. If we enter into a price war, I would have the advantage.
  • Listed 3 days ago, so again it’s likely that he is not in a hurry to sell this token.

Obviously just looking at current listings alone doesn’t provide enough information on whether something is a good opportunity. Other things like current collection status, similar sales history, etc. all should be taken into consideration.

Here we are profiling competition and evaluating risk. Once you learn the pattern, this can easily be done with just one quick glance. 🙂
