The Weekly Spin. Eleventh Edition. Big win for XRP, big win for crypto. This last saw the judgment of a U.S. court that concluded that XRP was not a security at retail, however may be considered as one for institutional investors – and the plot thickens. On arrival of the news, XRP rallied almost 2x, bringing along other altcoins in a short but decisive pump in the crypto-markets. ETH broke the $2k mark for the first time in ages, despite having retracted back to the previous support around $1,950. BTC continues to hold strong in the $30k-$31k range.

Coinweb held a meme competition last week that was created by the team and voted on by the community, results are on the way. The Coinweb Alpha Tester program participants were invited to our private Discord channel, and eagerly await the release version that will be opened to the early-access recipients. Much to be excited about, and everyone is ready to take the wallet for a test-drive!

In other news, the SEC “accepted” applications for Bitcoin ETFs from Blackrock, Fidelity, and a host of other TradFi shops that FOMO’ed in to receive an answer from the regulatory beast. Meanwhile, the EU’s ETF is well on its way to market already. Alex Mashinsky gets arrested, and Celcius settles with the FTC for $4.7B, one of the largest fines ever issued. Meta released “Threads,” a head-to-head competitor to Twitter that converted over 100 million users in the first week from their wildly popular platform, Instagram. We are yet to see if they will be able to retain these users with any real innovation that might cause Social Media behavior to branch out. India released its first soft-landing moon mission, the “Chandrayaan 3” to the hopes and joys of what is now the world’s most populated country, becoming the 4th nation after the US, Russia, and China to attempt to do so.

Within the industry, Polygon proposed a switch from MATIC to POL for various reasons; Arkham Intelligence launched their “snitch-to-earn” airdrop campaign; and a fake LayerZero airdrop penetrated the security of a large amount of unsuspecting wallets. Axelar announced its partnership with Microsoft to develop hybrid blockchain solutions (read: public and private). The FTC ruled not to block the massive acquisition of Activision by Microsoft, leading to concerns of anti-trust for many of the blockbuster titles owned by the former. Worldcoin is shaking it up with a successful raise and over 2M signups for the WorldID program.
