The Classic of Mountains and Seas

In an ancient book which was written more than 2,000 years ago, there is a grand and magnificent world.

There are crisscrossed mountains and rivers, located hundreds of miles apart from each other. There are countless exotic beasts in the mountains, such as white apes and strange snakes, as well as treasures such as golden jade and water jade.

The first guideway through the Southern Mountains begins at the Magpie Mountains. The first peak is Shaking Mountain, which overlooks the Western Sea. Many cinnamon trees and an abundance of metal and jade are found here.

Three hundred miles farther east is Hall-Court Mountain, where there are many Yan-Trees, many White-Gibbons, and much rock crystal and yellow gold.

Three hundred eighty miles farther east is Gibbon-Wings Mountain, where there are many strange beasts, many strange fish in the water, an abundance of white jade, and many Fu-Vipers, strange snakes, and strange trees. This mountain should not be climbed.

There are all kinds of strange spirits and beasts, big dogs with six legs and fish with bird wings. Various mountain ranges have their own mountain gods and ways to worship them.

Two hundred miles farther west is green Mountain, where there are many palms and some bamboo-made arrows at the foot. There are jades and golds on the south side of the mountain and yaks, antelopes and musks on the north side.

In this land, numerous strange stories have happened. There was the giant named "Kwafu" who chased the sun, drank the rivers, and turned into a forest after his death. There was the bird named “Jingwei” who threw rocks and grass into the East Sea, hoping to fill the ocean to avenge his drowning.

This is The Classic of Mountains and Seas, a universe with lands, characters, and stories, it was named Saanhoi in Cantonese, and this is where our project come from. The book has a complete and open worldview, moreover, it carries many oriental spiritual classics. This triggered us to consider, can we build a more interesting and wonderful world of The Classic of Mountains and Seas in Web3? Can we gather all the people who are interested in it and build a community-owned world in a Web3 way?

To build a brand new Saanhoi metaverse

When we tell others that we want to do an NFT project with The Classic of Mountains and Seas as the background, different voices may appear:

“You are too young to truly understand the spirits and stories of The Classic of Mountains and Seas, just grow up!”

"Yes! We must promote oriental culture and introduce it to the world. We should let everyone learn about our culture and fall in love with it!”

1.To become a learner and a sharer rather than a superior propagandist

Saanhoi Club is a group of people who want to explore The Classic of Mountains and Seas. We are not experts, but we are curious about the stories and believe that many people share our curiosity. At the same time, Saanhoi Club will share the experience of our exploration to make it easier for people to understand “The Classic of Mountains and Seas”. Rather than stuffing the Eastern culture into people’s minds, we are studying it and helping people to explore.

2.Saanhoi Club's cultural value comes from the core of the common Eastern culture, not simply its cultural form

Saanhoi Club believes that when you dive into a culture to a certain level, you can gain cultural values that can be shared across the globe. Why did American movies and TV shows or Japanese anime can gain a large audience worldwide, but we always question the inability of foreigners to develop an interest in Eastern culture? It is true that a simple display of ancient costumes, ink painting, kung fu, and other expressions will not allow people with different aesthetic cultural backgrounds to feel the true beauty and deep meaning behind the Eastern culture. What we hope to explore is the contradictory thinking of the disparity between the power of men and nature, the human spirit of unyielding will and perseverance（The story of Jingwei), and the universal philosophy buried deep in “The Classic of Mountains and Seas”. This is the origin of Saanhoi Club's cultural value.

3.Building a brand new Saanhoi metaverse in Web3

Saanhoi Club is a proof-of-Imagination community, where everything interesting can happen on the continent of Saanhoi. The Classic of Mountains and Seas can bring us fundamental world topography, grotesque characters and ghosts, and a variety of stories and values. On top of that, we will build a whole new world of Saanhoi metaverse, while using Web3 to allow each community member to truly own the world and freely unleash their imagination.

Saanhoi Club allows everyone to have a unique identity (NFT) in the world of Saanhoi, to build richer mountains and rivers on the lands of the metaverse, and even to create a game where people can build the world based on their imagination, interact with people and monsters, collect and own treasures on the mountain. Saanhoi Club will also continue to produce high-quality content, release related peripherals, and gradually grow into a decentralized community with strong consensus and influence. What's more, the community's imagination is endless and the Saanhoi metaverse will continue to evolve and develop, resulting in a lot of spectacular things!

At this point, some people may ask: how do you achieve such a big picture? It is about building a community self-driven DAO all over again, right? No, after reflecting on the traditional DAO, we will take a new approach to building decentralized communities.

Progressive decentralization √, Claim to be a DAO x

We have seen some projects repeatedly emphasize that they are a DAO, when in fact the founding team controls everything. Some projects confidently believe that giving ownership to the community will motivate people to build, but in reality, the progress is slow; some claim that DAO is a false proposition - centralization is more effective.

We believe decentralized communities are a better form of organization, and they require a proper approach to building and constructing.

Decentralized communities need a strong consensus and a stable collaboration model to be effective. In the early stage of the project, community consensus is not yet robust. Most community members join based on week interest, and they do not bother to participate seriously even if they get governance rights. Second, decentralized organizations depend on effective collaboration, which requires top-level design and strong adaption. In the early stage of the project, given the weak consensus, it is even more difficult to establish a unified collaboration model. Therefore, we will build a decentralized community in three phases.

Phase I: Team Governance

The fundamental goal of this stage is to define the vision, set the rules and products so that every user entering DAO clearly knows how to participate in the DAO and is mindful of the vision in the long run. In short, the governance goals are laid out into four points.

• Construction of governance framework
• Definition and description of the vision
• Collaboration mechanism design
• Development of first-gen product

At the same time, the whitelisting process of our project will be part of the building process. In fact, most of the whitelist acquisition process has nothing to do with project advancement. Some teams just find people who are willing to spend the most effort but not people who are interested in the project and willing to make an effective contribution. We want to gather a group of like-minded people and give the whitelist to those who contribute to the Saanhoi metaverse, such as the people who share oriental mythology content or insights on social media, create a story for one of the sacred beasts in The Classic of Mountains and Seas, etc.

Phase 2: CoreDAO Governance

In this phase, we will establish a CoreDAO+SubDAO community structure, so that the core team, active community members, and some relatively passive community members can work together to efficiently advance the project. CoreDAO will be responsible for Saanhoi Club's funding management, project collaboration, and other important tasks. In addition, CoreDAO will open up reward tasks to community members so that some active community members can directly participate in project advancement, and will support the establishment of various SubDAOs with financial rewards. For example, if you want to make marches for Saanhoi Club, you can propose the establishment of a branding DAO and then you can advance the related work with the funding. You can build any SubDAO you want such as BuildingDAO, GameDAO, etc.

After the first phase, Saanhoi Club will have established a basic community consensus. And in the second phase, with a basic unified consensus, all community members will be able to drive the project relatively autonomously and collaborate well with CoreDAO.

Community Governance

At this point, CoreDAO will return the core right such as decision-making rights to community members to achieve sufficient decentralization. Important responsibilities such as fund management and project collaboration will be handled by different SubDAOs, such as finance DAO and BD DAO. The whole community may have tasks or projects going in multiple directions advancing at the same time, such as one group researching The Classic of Mountains and Seas, another group building houses, and others designing games. Different SubDAOs can share problem solutions with each other, use the same meeting system or motivation system and all of that serves to push forward toward our common goal: building a new Saanhoi world.

After the first two stages, the community consensus is stronger and more stable, and the way different SubDAOs collaborate is maturing so that the core team can return important governance functions. Or, in other words, when the community consensus is strong enough and the SubDAOs are mature enough to collaborate with each other, the core team seems to be irrelevant and that's when we officially achieve community autonomy.

What excites us the most is that The Classic of Mountains and Seas itself is an extremely original and wonderful world that can be a source of imagination and a place where creativity can burst forth. In Web3, people can truly own the value created by their imagination (NFT), advance towards the same goal, and bring new development direction to Saanhoi metaverse with their creativity (DAO). This is exactly the kind of community Saanhoi Club wants to be, and Saanhoi metaverse, built by the community, will be thrilling and prodigious.
