Speedtracer Season 2 is here! After the inaugural 130 day Season 1, we’re making some changes to experiment with new incentive structures. A shorter 28 day season with ETH prizes starts Sunday, May 19th. Season 2 Track public mint starts Friday May 19th.
Speedtracer is getting competitive! For Season 2, we’re introducing a season-long points championship modeled after Formula 1 racing. Each day, players can earn championship points by placing on the Top 9 leaderboard. Points accumulate over the course of the season, and the top 9 points earners win a share of the ETH prize pool.
Rainbow is this season’s championship sponsor, so we’re calling it 🌈 Rainbow Cup. The prize pool starts at 1 ETH, and 50% of the mint fees on Season 2 Track and Race Result NFTs go into that prize pool.
Season 2 begins Sunday, May 19th and ends Saturday, June 15th. Here’s how the daily points and prize pool share breaks down. First, here’s what the points distribution would look like after a daily race is completed:
The points distribution math changes to percentages for the season-long 🌈 Rainbow Cup. The prize pool starts at 1 ETH and grows the more people play and mint race results. We’ve also pre-sold some tracks, and can assume that the prize pool has to grow if people are in fact earning points. But for simple math, if the prize pool stayed at 1 ETH, that would result in the following prize payouts:
🌈 Rainbow Cup rewards consistency and skill, but it still costs 0.0008 ETH to mint each race result. If you mint 2 results every day, thats a spend of 0.0448 ETH. So you would need to finish above 8th place in order to turn a profit.
Speedtracer tracks are onchain NFTs that track owners can customize to their brand to promote their project or company. That hasn’t changed from Season 1, but some changes are important to know.
First, all Season 2 tracks have already been minted and some have been pre-sold. Season 1 was a sequential generative mint of 130 tracks. Season 2 will allow interested sponsors to mint a track from the available supply of 28 tracks, allowing them to choose a date that best suits the sponsor. Many of our pre-sale sponsors are choosing dates to align with product launches. Speedtracer is also keeping specifically chosen supply - one of the more fun aspects of Season 1 was customizing tracks to match F1 courses on their race day, so we’re holding back the tracks on those days to guarantee our ability to do that.
Season 2 does not give track owners revenue share. Instead, the share of revenue that previously went to a track owner is going into the season prize pool. Many of our Season 1 track owners weren’t focused on the rev share, instead seeing their branded tracks as a fun experience for their community. This change allows us to reward our most engaged players with prizes, and encourages a different type of sharing, where players are incentivized to share Speedtracer with friends more so than in Season 1.
Season 2 tracks are cheaper to mint - 0.05 ETH rather than 0.08. We are introducing an optional customization fee of 0.025 ETH to help compensate for the time dedicated to working on branded tracks for track owners. Season 1 track owners receive a 50% discount on Season 2 tracks. 0.025 ETH from each track mint goes into the season prize pool.
