Is Money Comfortable Around You?

Last week I was listening to Tara Reed, CEO of Apps Without Code speak about her relationship with money. She said she went to a therapist in order to get help.

She mentioned how had just made $100K in one week, but when she went to get her nails done, she hesitated because of the cost. Did you catch that? She had just made $100K, but still felt a bit uneasy about spending money. Can you relate?

I’ve haven’t made $100K in a week yet, but, I can relate to having an uneasy relationship with money.

Growing up, our family never discussed money. Mom and dad both worked and we always had what we needed. As the youngest of three kids and the only girl, I never wanted much. I remember always wanted pencils and paper because I loved to write and make up stories, much like my mom who was a songwriter.

But, when Tara mentioned a Youtube video of Actress Khanyi Mbau who has a great relationship with money, I had to watch the video. In the first ten minutes she discusses her money philosophy which is so delicious to hear.

In the video Khanyi says, "I have a relationship with money. Money recognizes me. Money is comfortable around me. Money likes me. When money needs someone to talk to, it'll choose me in a crowd and sit next to me." WOW!

I absolutely love her confidence around the topic of money. Do you exude money confidence?

There’s also a great new Netflix documentary, with NY Times Best-Selling Author of Get Good With Money, Tiffany Aliche. She says in the movie, “Your money will never do better than what your mindset will allow.”

Money Mindset

In order to ensure that money is comfortable around you, you need to shift your mindset.

What would you say is the most powerful thing in the world? And what would you say if I told you that you already possess it? You were born with it. It was given to you freely, yet you often discount it. You take it for granted.

What is it? Let me give you a hint. It weighs less than three pounds and is more powerful than any super computer. You guessed it, it’s your brain — more specifically, your mind. Have you ever thought about the amount of things you change during your lifetime? You change your:

But if you don’t change your mind, meaning your mindset or your dominant way of thinking, especially when it comes to money, you will perpetuate the same monetary experience over and over again for the rest of your life, because everything about you outwardly changed, but nothing inwardly about you changed. Nothing in the world can rival a changed mind.

Tune out Your Inner Critic

In a talk at TEDx Talk, Mel Robbins, author and speaker, mentioned that scientists estimate the probability of you being born at about one in 400 trillion. Do you know what that means?

It means you are engineered for success and designed to have high levels of self-esteem, self-respect and personal pride. You are extraordinary. There has never been anyone exactly like you in all history of mankind on the earth. You have amazing untapped talents and abilities that, when properly directed and applied, can bring you everything you could ever want or dream of.

In essence, your very existence proves you are a miracle. Tune out the negativity, and focus on the awesomeness that is you. Money is not in control. You are. You got this. Read books, talk to financial counselors and finally get comfortable with money.
