Beyond The Five Senses

We all remember in science class, learned about the five senses; sight, touch, taste, smell, and sound.

Traditionally, after we invented the concept of the five senses, we spontaneously assumed that this concept can be applied to everyone. However, 2~4% of exceptional people can feel beyond the five senses. This is the extra dimension where feelings can not be described as a concept of the five senses.

I am writing this topic because I am interested in the five senses and also wanted to about other potential senses deeply. Recently after reading an article, I knew about “synesthesia”. I enjoyed the article because I was able to learn something new. Also, I wanted to share this new concept with you, which will able us to understand the world better. The skill of preciseness results in a happier feeling and a deeper understanding of other people and the world. Above all, the insight helped me learn about something I had already experienced.

Synesthesia is what happened when two or more of the five senses mix. Personally, I think it serves as a transition between the two senses. For example, a common form of synesthesia is when people can visualize what they hear as colors. In this case, synesthesia combines sight with hearing. I felt a bit of freedom after learning this because it gets rid of the traditional limitation in terms of human cognitive function. In summary, synesthesia is an unusual mixture between two senses.

Although the article said it’s rare to have this condition, I discovered that I have experienced synesthesia once. A while ago, as I woke up I heard my roommates' voices and was able to visualize their voices in terms of colors. At first, I thought I was dreaming and for a while, I was unable to describe what I felt. However, now I know what I experienced.

Personally, I would love to have synesthesia because it would help me be more creative with my work as a creator. I think it would allow me to take in various stimuli throughout my daily life and turn them into something tangible. However, some people may find synesthesia disputing if they don't have a creative career. For example, they could find it extremely distracting to always perceive things in such a rich manner. To sum up, I think the advantages of synesthesia depend on what one does for their preferences.

Synesthesia is a state that influences the cognitive system, allowing certain people to have extra "dimensional" senses. This is not especially unusual. Actually, lots of famous people got the condition.

Vincent van Gogh

Wassily Kandinsky

Duke Ellington

David Hockney

Billie Eilish

Frank Ocean

Beyoncé

Gogh also got the condition.

Did you find it interesting? I would love to have various mixtures with my sight. Sight is my favorite sense because I use it every day to create videos and edit them. In my line of work and life, I love making abstract concepts into something tangible with videos and images. In terms of this process, I want to explore new dimensional sensory experiences if possible.

I hope you enjoyed this writing and will see you soon!💗
