Your Touch: The journey to the drop / Pricing

When approaching my release of the Your Touch video I was keen to keep going with my ethos of low collectible editions of high quality. Yet, as I sat in spaces and talked to collectors I went from feeling 100% certain about my ideas to unsure as we creators often do. Where on this scale did I sit and how much should I pay attention to the market?

To me, I had spent hours planning and working through concepts and ideas with director Natalia, and she again had spent even longer weaving together images, footage and emotions to my music on a tight budget.

One of the main things I’ve realised is being fairly new to music NFTs I had a different way of looking at it to others: to me, I wasn’t just tokenising a WAV / Audio File, I was being given a tool to tokenise a package of both the visual aspect and audio, which in my mind acknowledged the value of the two as a complimentary and interwoven partnership. In my mind, I had finally found a new format where I could create connection and value to both as a single piece.

As I approached my drop on Glass.xyz I still found myself looking for an angle that excited me and felt like it had a story, so I turned to my collectors and the community: I was trying to have an open conversation about my thoughts and to get input on how collectors thought about it.

Here is a timeline built from my collector's chat, with the group's permission. I thought about writing this up and editing it in different ways, but just laying it out here as it happened felt more interesting for a few reasons:

  • It is an example of how connections and conversation can spark between your community members.

  • It shows how your community can become not just an extension of your team but a part of your creative process.

  • It offers some great insight into the way different collectors approach their passion.

  • I hope it's useful to others working through these same decisions.

When I started the conversation I truly didn't know who would answer.. but I had always had this idea in my mind about how I needed a sounding board for ideas and thoughts and hoped this was the place for that.

It was interesting to hear for me that the growth of price wasn't important to many collectors, its something that I used to hear a lot when i started out, probably because we were looking at PFP projects a lot more back then.

In reality, deciding a drop price is much more complex than this, and the starting point should always be about that piece of art specifically, and your aims and ambitions for it, but in this case, these were the main factors for me.

Since this conversation we have seen more and more open edition drops

The idea of paired editions is something I have thoughts on that i'm going to put into a more detailed post in time.. For me a central point is sustainable careers in music, and what models using web3 tools can lead to this.

In the end it was this conversation that led to my final decisions on the day of the drop….

…. and to writing this post

I went with 25 editions at 0.05E and am so happy to see them still finding their way to collectors.

At the time of writing there is 6 editions left and if you would like to collect, support my work and be a part of the community head over to the Glass.xyz

If you want to hear more about the process of making the Your Touch video you can hear from director Natalia here or listen to the full drop Twitter space and interview here.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this conversation and for letting me use your words to tell the story.

I’m very lucky to have such active and supportive collectors. So thank you all.
