Genesis Post - The what and why of this newsletter

What do you do when you find yourself struggling, deep down a rabbit hole? You embrace it and start a newsletter of course!

Early last year, I got sucked into the web3 world. I started reading whitepapers, following web3 focussed Twitter accounts, dipped my toes in DeFi, bought NFTs… and before you know it, got convinced of the potential of blockchain and web3. Then, recently, I had multiple conversations with my dad where I attempted to explain to him what blockchain is and what it can do. Kudos to him for being open-minded and inquisitive. But those conversations made me realize how web3 is still in its nascent stages and far from mass adoption.

While one of the reasons is that there are still many technical challenges that need to be addressed. But the other missing piece is for product managers to explore the applications of the technology to create products that people actually need and will use. This is the way to mass adoption.

The What

The conversation with my dad inspired me to start this newsletter where I explore the art of product management and learn to use it in the web3 world. For each post, I first spend time researching some aspects of product management. Then I evaluate a web3 product or project using what I learned and write about it. Some examples of future posts include: employing product sense to evaluate why OpenSea has succeeded, what was the go-to-market strategy of SushiSwap and why it worked, a high-level overview of Solidity, metrics to track for Axie Infinity, etc.

The Why

Why am I writing this newsletter? Well, many reasons:

  • I strongly believe that writing is the best form of learning because it forces you to think critically and helps identify gaps in your knowledge.
  • These posts are a good way to document my learnings for future reference.
  • By writing in public, I hope to hold myself accountable to publishing frequent and quality posts.

Why should you read this newsletter? Many reasons again:

  • You are also interested in learning how to build good web3 products.
  • You would like to learn more about existing web3 projects and what they are doing right.
  • You would like to support yet another budding writer and provide constructive feedback :)

Join me by subscribing as I explore the art of building products and the science of blockchain.
