Talent Playground: New EthCC Scholarships and Sunset of Goals

The Evolution of our Ecosystem Apps

Over the years, Talent Playground has been our core app, going through numerous changes and product experiments, from Talent Tokens to predicting professional goals.

Now, 3 months after the launch of Talent Protocol V2 and our V2 flagship app, the Talent Passport, there’s a new trending ecosystem app called BUILD, deeply integrated with Talent Protocol.

More than 40K people have already joined this social game where they can show appreciation for their favorite builders. And the cool thing is that your Builder Score influences your nomination power. If you haven’t tried it, go to build.top and nominate incredible builders to give and earn $BUILD. 🫡

In the last year, the Talent Playground introduced two exciting features: “Votings” and “Goals”. This week, we’re doubling down on one and sunsetting the other.

Sunsetting Goals

Goals have been a core part of Talent Playground over the past year. This feature enabled users to set personal goals and publicly commit to achieving them. Supporters could bet on the outcomes with $TAL, encouraging talent to achieve their goals, while earning rewards themselves.

But there’s limits to what a small core team can manage, and with the introduction of Talent Passport and BUILD, we had to make the hard choice of sunsetting something.

Goals have been a fun experiment. It was interesting to see people rallying behind some goals, or doubting others. But, no matter the community’s reaction, all was fuel to help our users work harder to achieve their goal.

On the flip side, we learned that this interesting new mechanic of bringing a prediction markets to personal goals only works for short-term goals, ideally no longer than a month. Otherwise the cycle is too long to be engaging. We learned that fitness related goals work much better, and that professional goals are usually too long term. And we learned that this features doesn’t add a lot of new reputation data to our protocol.

This is why we decided to remove Goals from the Talent Playground app this week. This decision was not made lightly, and we believe it will allow us to focus on delivering even better tools and features in the future.

Effective immediately:

  • Creation of new goals and Updates are disabled.

  • Predictions on existing goals are disabled.

We understand that many of you have been using the Goals feature to track and share your progress. To ensure a smooth transition, all users will have until May 26th to close their existing goals. We will return all funds from predictions on open goals by next Monday 27th. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this transition period.

Moving forward, only the Votings feature will remain in the Talent Playground app, allowing us to focus on other innovative products and enhancing Talent Passport.

To make this transition smoother, we are also announcing a new voting! This time builders from all around the world will be competing to win one out of the 10 spots we are giving for the EthCC Brussels scholarships

EthCC Brussels Voting and Applications Open

Votings:

This engaging feature allows users to compete to win scholarships to travel to the biggest hackathons in the world, and participate for a big prize pool of money by casting their votes on the right winners.

We are thrilled to announce that Talent Protocol will be hosting for 3rd year in a row, scholarships for EthCC Brussels!

This is a fantastic opportunity for all builders to continue developing their skills by attending great talks, networking with high quality builders, and most important, build on ETHGlobal hackathon.

Applications are now open, and we encourage all builders to apply. Learn more on how to apply here.

Future Migration to the Talent Passport App

In our commitment to providing a more integrated and seamless experience, we are migrating also some key features from Talent Playground to the Passport App. The features include:

  • Profiles

  • Wallet

  • Quests

By consolidating these features into the Talent Passport App, we aim to create a more cohesive platform that better supports your journey and achievements within the Talent Protocol ecosystem. We believe this move will significantly enhance the usability and functionality of these tools.

While we will miss the Goals feature, we are excited about the new opportunities and improvements this change will bring. The Talent Passport App will continue to serve as the core of our protocol, providing builders with the resources and support they need to build and showcase their onchain reputation and skills.

Thanks for being a valued member of the Talent Protocol community.

Stay tuned for more updates and announcements in the coming weeks.
