With over 1.3 billion USDT minted, Arbitrum has become the undeniable home for L2 stablecoin liquidity.
And today, it accelerates: USDT on Arbitrum is being upgraded to USDT0.
Still backed 1:1 by USDT on Ethereum.
Transfers into and out of Arbitrum within minutes.
Once completed the upgrade, fully composable between USDT0 chains, like Ink and Berachain.
This handoff has been facilitated by Tether, who transitioned ownership of USDT contracts to USDT0 during the upgrade. Coordination with Offchain Labs ensures a seamless transition for users, developers, and projects across the Arbitrum DeFi ecosystem, such as Aave and GMX.
For users holding USDT and dApps like Aave and GMX, the asset will automatically upgrade to USDT0 – there’s absolutely nothing to do.
USDT0 will be the canonical USDT stablecoin on Arbitrum.
No disruptions.
The stability you trust.
Just faster, better USDT.
Starting tomorrow at 16:00 CET, the migration begins. The migration process aligns with the standard 7-day settlement time for transfers from Arbitrum to Ethereum.
Here's what you need to know:
If you transfer USDT from Arbitrum to Ethereum during the migration period using usdt0.to, it will settle on February 5th.
If you continue holding USDT on Arbitrum, your USDT will seamlessly upgrade to USDT0 —no action is required.
The USDT contract address on Arbitrum will not change.
Third-party bridges, like Stargate, will remain unaffected.
Following the upgrade, deposits into Arbitrum will immediately flow through the new USDT0 infrastructure. The Arbitrum USDT bridge will then be discontinued after the 5th of February.
Starting February 5th, USDT0 will be fully interoperable across ETH, Arbitrum, and Ink, with Berachain, MegaETH, and additional networks soon to join the ecosystem.
The upgrade was audited by OpenZeppelin, Guardian Audits, and ChainSecurity.
All contracts involved also received full deployment verification by said auditors.
Tether’s engineering team was integral to the ownership migration review. Offchain Labs, and LayerZero Labs development teams were also part of the engineering process. The complete list of security audits can be found here.
As part of our comprehensive approach to security and stability, we've engaged Chaos Labs, the leading authority in Risk and Economic Security, to conduct an in-depth Risk Audit. Their public analysis and report will be published soon, providing transparency and validation of our upgrade process.
The launch of native USDT0 on Arbitrum marks a monumental milestone in Tether's growth, with over 1.3 billion USDT already secured on the network. Given Arbitrum's fast block times, cheap transactions, and proven reliability, it is positioned to become the premier home for Tether's Layer 2 presence. As part of the USDT0 upgrade, USDT transfers will also be processed through the official bridge.arbitrum.io interface, offering users a true Arbitrum experience with near-instant settlement times and minimal fees.
"The upgrade to USDT0 reinforces Arbitrum's position as a market leader for stablecoins. As a neutral, community-owned network, Arbitrum continues to be a natural liquidity layer for Ethereum. With the enhanced efficiency of USDT0, the stage is being set to massively expand the already impressive 1.3 billion USDT by orders of magnitude in the coming years."
Steven Goldfeder, Co-founder & CEO of Offchain Labs.
USDT0 expands USDT’s reach, enabling seamless integration with new chains.
As of today, USDT0 is live on Arbitrum and Ink, with MegaETH, Berachain, and multiple others coming soon, offering transfers that cost less than a cent and settle in minutes.
Post upgrade, transfer your USDT to Arbitrum on usdt0.to.
