Dear America: Letter 23

I last wrote on November 7- just days after President Trump’s election victory. At the time, I intended to step away from political commentary for two reasons. First, I wanted to give the new President space to deliver on his campaign promises to “Make America Great Again” before offering any critique or analysis. Second, I needed a mental reset-  a moment to breathe after years of constant involvement in the turbulent and draining political arena.

But stepping away proved more difficult than I anticipated. For much of the past seven months, I found myself immersed in political work, working with the team of conservative commentator Stephen Crowder. That experience kept me closely engaged with the day-to-day developments of the Trump presidency - and, more importantly, allowed me to stay grounded in facts, not filtered narratives.

Overall, I’ve supported the Trump administration, especially its firm stance on border security and immigration. On other fronts, such as tariffs, I believe it’s too early to make a definitive judgment; these policies require time to yield measurable outcomes.

However, the purpose of this letter is to address what may be one of the most consequential moments - not just in Trump’s presidency, but in modern American history. On June 21, 2025, President Trump authorized a series of military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. The airstrikes, which targeted the Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites, mark the first direct U.S. military assault on Iranian soil. They represented a dramatic escalation in the military conflict between Iran and Israel, which erupted on June 13. Later on that very night, President Donald Trump announced that Iran’s major nuclear enrichment facilities had been “completely and totally obliterated,” calling it a monumental moment for both Israel and the United States. However, it’s important to note that, at the time of this letter, Trump’s claims could not be independently verified.

My initial reaction to the decision was one of deep concern. To be honest, I was highly skeptical of America getting involved in any capacity in the conflict between Israel and Iran. I won’t hide the fact that I questioned President Trump’s judgment - and, at one point, even wondered whether his actions were influenced by his large donors with strong ties to Israel.  While there’s no denying that a regime like Iran’s - one that openly calls for the destruction of America and Western civilization - poses a serious threat if allowed to develop nuclear weapons, the prospect of another war in the Middle East is deeply unsettling. After what we saw in Afghanistan and Iraq, the last thing this nation needs is to be drawn into another “forever war.”  Even more troubling is the possibility that such a war could spiral into the beginnings of World War III. More importantly, I fear that a war overseas would shift our nation's attention away from the challenges we face here at home - at a time when many Americans are in urgent need of help.

However, as I write this letter, President Trump’s actions have resulted in a negotiated ceasefire - bringing an end to the war between Iran and Israel without a single American boot on the ground. Impressively, the missile strike did not kill anyone on the Iranian front as well. Iran’s only direct response to the U.S. missile strikes so far has been a retaliatory attack on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, where, fortunately, no U.S. personnel were injured. President Trump dismissed the strike as “very weak.”

It’s hard to describe Operation Midnight Hammer as anything other than a major success - not just for America, but for Israel and Western civilization as a whole. The Islamic Republic of Iran, a regime that has long threatened and antagonized the United States, has suffered a significant blow to its nuclear capabilities. This matters because nations like Iran don’t pursue nuclear weapons for deterrence or self-defense in the way Western democracies do. Instead, they seek them as tools of intimidation - meant to terrorize their enemies and destabilize the values and security of the Western world.

Additionally, I would argue that the success of this mission marks a pivotal moment for America - one that signals our nation is back and no longer afraid to act decisively. It sends a clear warning to adversaries like China, Russia, and North Korea: the United States will not hesitate to use force when it comes to protecting its allies and national interests. I’d wager that, under President Trump’s leadership, China will now think twice before making any move on Taiwan.

I commend the Trump administration for bringing this conflict to a swift and decisive end. Whether Israel and Iran will uphold the ceasefire remains to be seen. For Israel, the immediate need to press forward has diminished - President Trump’s actions have effectively neutralized the nuclear threat. For Iran, the strikes serve as a clear warning: the United States will stand by its allies and is not afraid to act when necessary. Perhaps now, in this new era, the path toward a more stable and peaceful Middle East will seem not only wiser - but possible.

Signed,

G.S.P.
