The 🐸 Birth Lottery - Manifesto
June 7th, 2024

The Birth Lottery is the OG collection from the Toad the Great project, featuring 666 unique items. This collection not only aims to build the first community of Toads OGs but also seeks to express the core values that the cartoon influencer stands for.

In an allegorical and satirical way, this collection represents the different social classes throughout human history, from the Babylonians to the modern era, distributed into the historical social pyramid.

The first theme of this digital and distributed artwork is explored through the lenses of art and philosophy.

Inspired by political philosopher John Rawls and his theory of natural justice, this piece underscores the randomness of life. Life's no inherent fairness; we don’t choose when or to whom we are born. We simply come into existence without any say in the matter. He also believes that natural talents and characteristics are predetermined by nature rather than one's choices. Nature decides whether one would have advantageous characteristics or not.

Life is a lottery. We can't decide when, where we are born, or who our parents are. Our era and social class are purely matters of chance, not choice. This randomness highlights the absence of natural justice.

When you think about it, this ties in with the theory of reincarnation. Just as life deals us random cards, reincarnation suggests that our souls might come back in different times, places, and social standings.

It's all a roll of the cosmic dice, shaping our experiences and challenges across lifetimes 🎲🎲

The second theme focuses on the inherent hierarchy in human society and the concept of power and violence among communities.

Inside the historical social pyramid, you find groups of people, generally gathered in communities of varying sizes.

Several factors have determined the presence of a certain community at a specific level of the pyramid. Some are cultural, others religious, some related to violence, others to technology and progress, and even the management of money. History shows that forms of hierarchy have always been present.

Our collection has tried, as much as possible, to distribute the main communities of history within the pyramid, reflecting the dynamics of violence and power that have occurred throughout history.

Nowadays, the social elevator is broken, moving up a step is just a matter of luck, like winning the lottery.

This collection follows the narrative cycle we’re sharing on X - The History of the Toads - which, in 66 episodes, allegorically tells significant events in human history, highlighting community dynamics and power struggles. Even the number 666 is a controversial symbol, having both angelic and demonic connotations from a religious perspective. This further illustrates that humanity and society are neither purely good nor evil.

With this distributed artwork, we want to emphasize this representation of classes, critically. We are against cancel culture. We are cyber-humanists. From our perspective, digital art must be able to represent even the negative events of history in such a way that we can learn from them and not repeat them, using animal allegories and satire as well. Our team is international; we love every person and every culture. There is just one race: the 🐸.
