HD Wallets now supported by Turnkey

Turnkey now supports the generation of HD wallets in addition to private keys. In case you forgot your Crypto 101, that stands for “Hierarchical Deterministic Wallets” — a type of wallet that allows for multiple keys to be derived from a single master seed. HD wallets come with a lot of benefits over standard private keys. Namely, they can be used across various cryptographic curves, they enable the generation of millions of addresses, and they can be represented by a simple mnemonic phrase making them easier for consumers to backup and recover.

A core product principle at Turnkey is flexibility, so we maintain full support for private keys. Whether you prefer private keys or HD wallets, Turnkey has you covered.

Wallet export: You CAN take it with you

In addition to supporting HD wallets, we’re introducing export functionality. This new feature and the open source helper functions we’ve released alongside it enable end users to export wallets and private keys from Turnkey at any time.

This feature has been designed specifically to ensure that neither your application nor Turnkey can intercept the exported data. We do this by encrypting the mnemonic to a key held in the user’s local storage and injecting it into an iframe hosted on export.turnkey.com.

Export is a sensitive action that can lead to unintended access to a private key. A lot of tools in the space don't provide much detail about how their processes actually work, but we think it's important to be transparent about our security practices.
