As promised in my last article, here is how you mint an NFT on hicetnunc.art using the Tezos Blockchain.
Hicetnunc.art (or HEN for short) is a great way to mint NFTs for new artists. Not only is it cheap to mint but you don’t have to create a collection and mint into it like on objkt.com. You can mint single NFTs right from the start without overthinking how or if you would like to group then.
This article will skip the Tezos introduction, as well as how to purchase Tezos and transfer it to a wallet that can interact with the HEN site. You can read up on those steps at the beginning of my last article here.
I do recommend having at least 5 Tezos ($XTZ) in your wallet to mint a new NFT. The minting process does cost $XTZ and the amount varies based on how many NFTs you’re minting and the traffic on the Tezos network at the time of mint.
The first step in this process is to connect (sync) your Tezos wallet to the HEN site. You can sync your wallet by clicking the three horizontal lines (hamburger menu) in the upper right of the website. The site will then ask you to select your wallet and sign a transaction to confirm the connection. This will not cost you any $XTZ.
Once you’ve signed and connected your wallet you can click on the menu in the upper right and select “OBJKT (mint)”. This will take you to the mint page where you can fill out your information about your NFT.
Note: This WILL NOT allow you to sell your NFT; more information on that later.
Once you select OBJKT (mint) you’ll be taken to a page like the one above. I’ve bulleted below each item and its meaning:
Once you’ve filled out all the fields and uploaded your NFT click Preview.
The next page displays how your NFT will look when minted. If you need to fix something click the Back button in the upper left. Once you mint you will not be able to change the name, description, tags, or royalties.
When you’re happy with everything click “mint OBJKT”. You should note that this operation costs about 0.08 $XTZ to mint your NFT.
Once you click mint OBJKT your wallet will pop up asking you to spend around 0.08 $XTZ to confirm the transaction.
When you confirm your transaction you may see a blank screen. Don’t worry, just click the drop down menu in the upper right and select “manage assets”. You should then see your newly minted NFT under your assets.
To sell your NFT you must select “swap” on the NFT information page. Select your newly minted NFT and you will see a page of information like the one below. From there click “swap” to go to the next page to fill out your pricing information.
Once you click swap you will be able to list how many editions you’d like to sell and for how much. If you remember, I minted 10 editions of my NFT. I will list all 10 of them for sale. You can also choose to list only a couple of them for sale if you’d wish. I will next list my 10 editions for sale for 1 $XTZ each.
Once you’re happy with editions and price click “swap” again and your wallet will ask you to confirm the transaction. You will have to pay a small fee to process this transaction. It cost me about 0.65 $XTZ to process my NFT for sale.
Note: HEN charges a 2.5% fee on each sale of your NFT for site maintenance.
After you’ve confirmed the transaction in your wallet you can go back to your NFT asset information page and should now see an option in the lower right to “collect for x tez”. Where “x” is the amount of $XTZ you listed your NFT for sale. In my example below I listed my NFT for sale for 1 $XTZ.
Congratulations! You’ve just created and listed your NFT for sale on HEN! Now you’ve got to share your NFT with the world! Twitter and Discord are a great way to showcase your new NFT. I’d also suggest trying to collaborate with existing artists so you can both gain exposure.
One last tip is to verify your alias on Tezos Baking Bad so it populates to your HEN profile. This will link your twitter/instagram/etc., on HEN so collectors can verify that you are a real artist and feel more inclined to buy your NFT.
HEN unfortunately does not currently verify accounts so it is easy for scammers to steal art and mint it as their own on HEN. I have unknowingly purchased some stolen art and didn’t find out until days after. Now I keep it as a reminder to do my research before buying on HEN.
After it was all said and done, it cost me about 0.25 $XTZ (around $0.97 USD at the time of this writing) to mint and set up my NFT for sale on HEN. This is incredibly more affordable than minting and selling an NFT on the Ethereum blockchain and it’s why a lot of artists new to creating NFTs choose Tezos to mint their firsts.
I’ve also listed a recap of the high level steps below:
