Wabi Sabi | More Than a Community

💗WABI SABI - More than a community.

The image below is from the project's founding team members chuckk chubby and wit's vision for starting a quality community, please take at least 30 seconds to read it lol (mosaic is chosen here to protect the privacy of the members asking questions within the community).

🔓Wabi Sabi | The Road to Unlocking the Whitelist

Next up, XX and Edwin will share their different whitelisting journeys, which we hope will help you. In the meantime, we will share our feelings and thoughts on quality communities. Many thanks to the AAC and Wabi Sabi communities for bringing XX and Edwin together in two different countries.

XX:

This is XX.
This is XX.

I'm XX, a girl who grew up loving secondary and globally different cultures. Being very curious about all kinds of cultures from different countries and regions, I would watch anime and movies as soon as I got home from school and couldn't help but watch hundreds of anime and thousands of movies :)

I really started playing Crypto in 2021, but at first I only speculated on coins and didn't go out of my way to learn about NFT, but there was one project that got me going, and that was Azuki. after that, Wabi Sabi was the second project that got me particularly hooked since I entered the NFT scene.

I actually first came across this project in a Chinese community called AAC, a community that shares quality NFT projects from time to time and helps quality projects expand their ecology and seed users. Why did I get into this community? Because I was a fan of Chris, one of the founders of this community, and he was a special follower of mine on the Chinese social media platform weibo, so I DM him to apply for access to the AAC community when he first started it. Why did I start following Chris relatively early? Because when I searched for the word alpha, I saw some of the quality content he created and shared, and I enjoyed reading it, so I followed him silently for a while. I'm really grateful to Chris for giving me this opportunity to get into the community. After entering the community, I recommended the community to some good friends who I believe in my heart are sincere, willing to share and love trendy culture. One of them also entered the community and got a WL, and some other good friends have not got a WL but have been contributing to the community.

The AAC community often posts co-promotions and Wabi Sabi came to the forefront of my mind. I saw Chris mention WABI on the Alpha channel late one night, so I went to check out the project. the first time I saw WABI's Twitter feed, I had a feeling like I was in love (yes, the last time I felt this way was when I saw Azuki at 3 a.m.). the WABI community DC opens irregularly and only lets in a little bit of people at a time. In order to get into the DC, I spent my days and nights watching the AAC community chat window and the Twitter feed of WABI co-founder Fatty @0xchuckk. I was lucky enough to get into the community and was also very lucky to win a WL for Wabi Sabi in the AAC community raffle.

Tinder-for-games

Even though I've been whitelisted and could have laid flat, I can't help but check out the Wabi Sabi community every day and interact with people in there and play games. Because the people in this community are so much fun! The announcement at the beginning of the project DC highlighted that there was a tinder-for-games, where community members were advised to team up in pairs and play games together to get whitelisted.

This is a great way to help community members make friends. It's also where I met Edwin, a guy who goes to school in Germany and loves fitness, and after DMing a bit we found out that we both went to the same high school in the same city (albeit at different times), which was amazing! We also got involved in Valentine's Day together (our Valentine's Day 💌 will be shared at the end of this article to satisfy your curiosity).

Every day when I get home from work, I go on WABI to check out Edwin's live stream and experience the happy life of my friend on the other side of the world. Perhaps because I have been hanging out in some Chinese forums since I was a kid, I have an attachment to quality communities. I have always believed that the value of a quality community is far greater than a whitelist. In times of leisure, you can play games and chat in the community to make friends; in times of stress, you can go to the community to see the healing pictures people share and chat with friends to relieve your mood; and when you see a beautiful view that no one can share, you can share it on the community's exclusive channel so that more people can experience the beauty.

The more diverse and global the population of an NFT project is, the easier it is for a community to gather people from all over the world with similar cultural preferences, aesthetics and interests. Making friends by consensus, this is one of the greatest values of a quality community in my opinion. It is also a good idea not to make the DC link public, this will ensure that every time users come in they are genuinely interested in the project, and that people who genuinely like the project join the community in order to have an active community atmosphere and maintain a good community environment. I would not dare to buy an NFT if the community culture is not good, after all, it is very important to me that I make more good friends with like-minded people after buying the NFT.

The Wabi Sabi community is magic! The Wabi Sabi community is a hobby-driven global dating community that carries on the WABI philosophy of "the only way is to accept imperfection" and is full of easy-going, sharing, warm-hearted people.

Next, my partner Edwin will tell you how he got whitelisted and how his experience was very different from mine. It might be more informative for you all!

PS. I really want to thank the Wabi Sabi project for allowing me to meet my partner Edwin. ^_^

Edwin:

This is Edwin.
This is Edwin.

Hi, my name is Edwin and I'm based in 🇩🇪. Wabi Sabi was the first early project I was involved in since I entered the NFT scene, from just over 1k people when I first joined DC to almost 20k now, a 20x increase in numbers, I'd like to talk about my feelings about the community here, in which I'll also share what I went through before and after I got whitelisted.

There are many ways to get whitelisted, but the number of reward slots has always been relatively small. Apart from artwork, most of the events have some element of luck, such as the raffle and Bumble Royale, which are basically irrelevant for a black-faced player like me.

There were two WABI family members who impressed me.

Firstly, Owen, who I remember because he was one of the few guys who had his picture as his avatar in the NFT community, and secondly, he was active in almost all VCs, so much so that I remember him getting his red name (with mint 1 NFT) and yellow name (with mint 2 NFTs) in just a week's time!

After getting his yellow name, Owen is still active in the channel, even having his avatar made into the official WABI emoji, and he speaks to the community in basically every way, helping newbies out, blowing off steam, and sometimes flirting with girls. If you have relatively much time on your hands, check out Owen's contributions to the community, the mods will be watching.

Benover, another WABI family member who impressed me a lot, was also made into an official emoji. the first time I went to the VC chat Ben turned on his webcam and live streamed himself doing experiments, eating takeaways and playing games, and then within a week got a red name as well as a yellow name for the intensity of sharing his life with everyone.

Both Ben and Owen, as far as I can remember, didn't ask the mod for anything, they just quietly did something for the community, helped shape the community wabble culture and finally the mod gave them their due.

Wabi-sabi (Japanese: 侘び寂び Wabi-sabi) is a Japanese aesthetic centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The beauty of wabi-sabi is sometimes described as 'imperfect, impermanent and incomplete'.

Wabi-sabi aesthetics is the most distinctive feature of traditional Japanese aesthetics. Its place in Japanese aesthetic values is roughly equivalent to that of the Greek ideal of beauty and perfection in the West. An object can be said to be wabi-sabi if it can bring within us a sense of serene melancholy and spiritual yearning.

Wabi-sabi accepts that life is complex, but reveres simplicity. It acknowledges three simple truths: nothing lasts forever, nothing is finished and nothing is perfect. By accepting these three facts, one accepts contentment as a mature joy.

Unlike other communities, everyone in WABI is a little closer together.

Chuckk keeps the community growing by watching how many new people he opens the door to let in each day (although one day he accidentally fell asleep with the door open lol and let in a huge wave of people), but all in all Chuckk is a really fun guy when he's not working. He'll come on CN VC and show us some Chinese, play guitar and sing wabi sabi to the moon in the karaoke room, and even create a fake whitelist to tease us, something I don't see in other communities.

Just the other day I was in a VC on a whim, studying live on screen for an exam I'm sitting in a month's time, when a familiar voice popped up and it was Chuckk! Chuckk heard him and started snoring just like him lol.

Apart from Chuckk, wit from the founding team is also a very warm person. One WABI family member had been chatting with the community for 8 hours in the general channel, wit gave him a whitelist and told him to go to bed and rest.

I got my WL by participating in the second uwu challenge and my partner LUNA, a girl with a great voice, we both came up with the idea of combining recording with music and adding some autotune; she did the recording and I did the post-production. One morning after submitting my work, I woke up to a private message from LUNA saying "You've won!". I have to admit it was the happiest moment I've had since joining WABI!

The celebrity effect is now more like a scythe to cut the leeks, judging from the performance of the NFT market, which has a slightly bearish feel to it.

Choosing a good project owner and building a community with them to make your NFTs appreciate is the surest way to go, and it is in a sense the way decentralised communities should grow. The current mint price of WABI SABI is 0.075eth, which I think is a good indication of the sincerity of the project, and the artwork style of WABI is rare at the moment and is painted with care.

Finally, I hope those of you who have joined WABI will get your white list soon!

To share with you the currently known relatively regular get-white-listed activities, using GMT+8 time zone as a reference.

Karaoke is available all day long, sing well and get a chance to win a white

1am Smash Carts event organised by Ped. 2 rounds per day, winner gets a lolli but cannot achieve red to yellow with this event.

7-8am Organised by Khan or Salma, the content varies from day to day and is mainly in the form of VC. Basically the event consists of 10-25 people and 2 lollis are drawn or given out according to the ranking of the games.

11-12am Trivia organised by mj, which I haven't attended due to time difference (Pity)

Finally, we want to share what XX and Edwin wrote to each other as friends 💌.

Thanks to the wabi Valentine's Day event, we had the right opportunity and occasion to express our gratitude to our partners naturally and without pretense!
