I attended the Bitcoin Freedom Festival in Uvita, Costa Rica from January 18th through 20th. It was a unique event that was unlike any bitcoin gathering Iâve ever attended. There were over 30 speakers during the festival so I wonât try to cover each but there was one session that stood out and it involved a panel of indigenous women all who spoke through a translator. This panel said two things on the final morning which captured the essence of the festival. First, she made it clear they were guided by the Great Spirit to be there on that stage. \[âI came because the Great Spirit opened the pathâ which included a car to the venue.] The wind speaks to us, the water speaks to us, the trees speak to us. Grandfather says, âalways speak to that which gives us energy.â Some of these ideas might seem strange to the western mind, fully addicted to their screens and disconnected life.
OPINION WHY I BITCOIN Am I 13 years late or 13 years early on bitcoin? Deadass wrong or totally right? Who knows. It's a risk, but one I now understand better and can't ignore anymore.

OPINION LAYER 2 IS NOT A MAGIC INCANTATION Layer 2s are inherently limited in what they can accomplish, and importantly under what trust model they can accomplish things, by what the Layer 1 they are built on is capable of.
A common chant from many in this space these days in response to any discussion of changes to the Bitcoin protocol is âDonât mess with Layer 1! You can just build it on Layer 2!â This seems like a very logical thing to do, right? Why risk the security and stability of L1 when you can just build on top of it? The problem is this fundamentally fails to understand the relationship between Layer 1 and Layer 2.
