U.S. Chamber of Digital Commerce calls on Congress to create committee dedicated to encryption regulations

The American Chamber of Digital Commerce, a blockchain lobby group backed by firms including Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Circle and Fidelity, has issued a call to action to Congress and the Senate to prioritize passage of a national approach to cryptocurrency regulation. The group added that it is asking Congress to organize a "Daylight Commission on Digital Assets and Blockchain Technology" to develop a "national strategic approach to digital assets and blockchain technology" in the United States. The group warned that failure to act would allow further activity by "hostile countries" in the field, "jeopardizing US leadership and dollar supremacy".

Nyanify, Inc. and Christopher Orlando Torres, the online celebrity Grumpy Cat brand owner, have sent lawyer letters to the two Meme coin project parties, "Nyan Meme Coin" and "GrumpyCat Coin", informing them of alleged trademark infringement and asking them to stop the infringement. "This infringing use has created actual confusion among consumers about the origin of the merchandise, leading them to believe that this coin is somehow related to our customer," the attorney's letter reads.

Bitwise Has Withdrawn Ethereum Futures ETF Application

Bitwise Asset Management has withdrawn its application to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an ethereum futures ETF. Meanwhile, an amended SEC filing by Grayscale on Wednesday appears to indicate that the firm has also suspended plans to offer ethereum (ETH) futures products. Grayscale last week filed registration documents with the SEC for three new ETFs, the Grayscale Ethereum Futures ETF, the Grayscale Global Bitcoin Aggregate ETF, and the Grayscale Privacy ETF. But in a revised document dated May 17, only proposals for a global bitcoin composite ETF and a privacy ETF were revealed.

US House Speaker McCarthy: Ultimately we won't have a debt default

U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy told CNBC in an interview that he doesn't think the U.S. will eventually default on its debt as tensions over the debt ceiling continue. McCarthy did not say he was optimistic about the progress of the negotiations, but he said he was encouraged by Biden's willingness to negotiate. U.S. President Joe Biden said on Tuesday he would cut short a trip to Asia to further his involvement in debt-ceiling negotiations. McCarthy said: "The only thing I have confidence in is that now we have a structure and we can find a way to come to a conclusion. There is no problem with the timetable. But we will make sure to come together and get the job done." House Republicans said , if Biden and lawmakers do not agree to future spending cuts, they will not lift the cap. Moody's recently predicted that if the US defaulted, US GDP would drop by 4%, and more than 7 million workers would lose their jobs. Even a brief default would cost 2 million jobs, the data showed.

Two Signature Bank executives reiterated at a Senate hearing on Tuesday that Signature does not need to be shut down. Signature is prepared to continue operating despite $16 billion in customer withdrawals following the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, Signature co-founder and former chairman Scott Shay said. It is believed that Signature can withstand the economic earthquake, that it is well capitalized and solvent. Eric Howell, the former president of Signature, agreed, saying the bank was "well capitalized, solvent and has sufficient borrowing capacity to sustain current and future withdrawals". According to previous news, the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) denied that Signature Bank closed down because of its exposure to the encryption industry.

Auradine Closes $81M Series A Funding Led by Celesta Capital and Mayfield

Silicon Valley-based privacy-focused blockchain and artificial intelligence startup Auradine announced it has closed an $81 million Series A round led by venture capital firms Celesta Capital and Mayfield. Other investors in the round included Cota Capital, DCVC and Stanford University. Bitcoin mining company Marathon Digital Holdings (MARA) is also among the supporters. As part of the investment, Celesta's Sriram Viswanathan and Mayfield's Navin Chaddha will join Auradine's board. Marathon CEO Fred Thiel sits on the network infrastructure startup's board of directors.
