In ancient times
December 2nd, 2022

In ancient times, in order to survive better, our ancestors learned to remember dangerous situations so that they could react quickly when needed. Otherwise, they had to think every time they encountered a wild animal, they would have been eaten. This is how our brains work: think once, remember, and the next time you encounter the same situation, just call up the old memory. You don't have to rethink it, because thinking about it is very slow and energy-intensive for the brain. Our brains are brilliant at reducing complexity to simplicity, but the legacy is that we increasingly rely on the use of memory, or habits, to make decisions. People, born in the pursuit of simple and comfortable, in the case of ignorance can be lazy will not be laborious, which makes the vast majority of people innately resistant to thinking. However, we have evolved from ancient civilization to scientific and information civilization. In modern society, the fundamental difference between people is the difference in cognitive ability, and cognitive ability is extremely dependent on thinking ability. It can be said that thinking ability is the fundamental competitiveness of our foothold in modern society. Therefore, people with long-term vision will actively and deliberately hone themselves, trying to improve the density of thinking every day. People make decisions at two levels. The first is an "emotional decision". For example, when you see someone working out, taking photos, or painting, your adrenaline starts to rush and you immediately say you want to do the same. The second is "rational decision". Rational decision also means to want something, but it means that one must have already thought about why, how to do it and the possible difficulties. People who make "emotional decisions" tend to do things by halves, while people who make "intellectual decisions" are more likely to let their thoughts become reality. The same is true of reading. When people start to hate the status quo and want to be better, the first thing they want to do is usually to read a book. Many wise people love books, books give them different things, so anyway, reading more books must be good. Such decisions are emotional decisions based solely on a strong desire. The promise of life seems right in front of us when we think about how reading can make us better, so we can't stop asking for a list of books and then immediately go on a shopping spree online or in bookstores. There is nothing like the pleasure we get when we take a book off the shelf or click the pay button online -- it seems that the knowledge becomes our own as long as we possess the book, but when we open it, we lose interest. Abstruse theories, abstract logic, boring cases, black and white tones... The experience of reading is far from what you imagined. It's not as fun as scrolling through your phone. After a few days, the books will not be able to turn. They used to look ecstatic, but now they look hideous. I guess you still have a lot of unopened or dusty books in your bookcase? The other group of people are a little better, they can keep reading, and read a lot, very fast, hundreds of books a year, really "love books", but the only thing that does not make them satisfied is that reading so many books without any change, even more confused. Reading this thing although good, but a lot of traps, not want to read can read.
