Enshrined in our philosophy are kindness, solidarity, integrity, and the resolve to build a social community uncorrupted by those who do not possess them. This page outlines the core values and ethos that guide our interactions and decisions.
"Build community in-real-life, online and around the world.”
We work for the community, not for ourselves. We ask not what we can get, but what we can give. Even if it’s difficult, we embrace the challenge to better ourselves and improve the social condition. Participants are free to enjoy the spaces we provide without interference from advertisers. We reject commissions, advertising profits, spam, data tracking, and any practice that may diminish the dignity of our members. We respect personal space. When participants want to contribute, they do so by socializing outsiders and by integrating new members.
In a world full of cynicism and judgment, we welcome the outcasts, the different, and the misunderstood. Those who don’t look like us, think like us, or act like us. We prioritize the solidarity of the community above our differences. Mundo Lingo is a space for people to socialize without the harsh scrutiny of the outside world. We know, it’s the most unique characters that bring the most interesting conversations to our gatherings.
We don’t only tolerate them - we embrace them. Keep this in mind: push yourself to talk to that ‘weirdo’, help them find their voice and unleash more treasurable characters into the community.
It’s a self-evident truth that at the moment of birth all people are good. Soon, external factors will influence them to adopt coping mechanisms, some good, some bad. We try to remember this when dealing with fools. They started in the same place and are trying to find their way through this mess just as we are, behind every inappropriate action is a hurt for something missing or a painful past. Our actions reverberate, culminate and dissipate as much through a society as through a single person. When dealing with fools, we dismantle these clumsy coping mechanisms with kindness.
Mundo Lingo flags represent the languages and cultures of people, not nations. We reject any perceived affiliation between the flags and any governments that occasionally veil themselves with those flags to lend authority to violence. We wear flags for the languages and dialects that we speak. Talking about politics however, is encouraged. Play nicely!
"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle."
Leave the community alone. Mundo Lingo is simple; display your flags in order of fluency - stand to socialize. No further requests!
We host a 'no-nonsense' space, free of gimmicks and bureaucracy. We respect people and their personal space, and therefore guarantee them deliverance from: audience participation, talking over microphones, organizing games, raffles, karaokes or competitions, asking participants to dress in specific ways or wear costumes, using accessories such as wristbands, directing participants to gather, sit, move, turn around, clap, or perform other actions, collecting personal data through registrations, guest lists, or QR verifications, and distributing surveys, questionnaires, ads, or flyers. Our events are designed for natural social interaction without interference or unnecessary structure.
Communications with the public must be to the point and of interest. We don’t bombard those we care about with repeated messages, incite them to purchase products or visit the pages of other organizations.
We do not offer accept neither inbound nor outbound financial incentives for referrals of any kind.
Cross-promotion requests are common, but our commitment to an authentic and spam-free network means we do not promote other organizations. This ensures our communications are genuine and focused on our mission. We owe a debt of gratitude to our allies in other organizations for their continued support.
"Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching."
The brand of Mundo Lingo doesn’t make appeals for empathy, sympathy or solidarity. We believe only people should speak of these things, and that for a brand to do si is disingenuous and suspcious. This is so important, we made a dedicated Branded Solidarity guide here.
This is the only concept we do not tolerate. We expand on our definitions of violence in Community Rights
