We're building a Ship!

Wait what are you building?

At Ships we're building a platform to help software developers create sustainable open source. We're making it possible for developers to launch their own tokens for their Open Source Software projects.

Tokens are Schelling Points

Schelling points allow people to coordinate without explicit coordination. With open source development, projects often struggle to build community, gain support, and coordinate with third party projects.

Tokens offer a way for people to gather around a project and to build an entire ecosystem around the project idea. Not only from a code standpoint, but also from an economic opportunity standpoint.

Community is what you make it

With the power of tokens we can super charge the community to decide how to bring value to the ecosystem.

Is it by offering tokens for API access, is it by offering service provider opportunities to token holders, is it by providing the community with the ability to pool resources together to purchase hosting services.

Community drives token utility. They're all in
Community drives token utility. They're all in

Tokens enable developers and community members to decide how they'd like to create value, and allows them to do more with fiscal contributions, incentivize code contributions drawing people into the network and community of like minded individuals who can focus on creating more value around the token.

Simply put tokens offer OSS software developers/fans/service providers more. In these cases if the tokens grow so does the value of the project.

How's it work?

We make it easy for developers to build token economies. We help you partner with an artist, create a small NFT drop, launch a DAO, and funnel the proceeds into benefits for contributors and funders in the form of utility tokens. While these tokens are not a security. They are able to be exchanged for services like api hosting, technical support, and other offerings that the community want to bring to the ecosystem.

Sponsors and fans that hold the NFT are able to participate in DAO voting, and claim continuously issued utility tokens that are minted on a schedule, while holding their NFT.

Contributors are also able to earn utility tokens, and exchange these tokens for Contributor NFT. This is done on a continuous basis using a weighted contributor ranking system like SourceCred.

Benefits

Token holders are able to claim benefits, such as voting on issues such as extending funds to pay for hosting services. This would allow hosting services to be free for NFT holders, and non NFT holders would be able to exchange utility tokens for API access or licensing permissions.

When a project grows, there's no reason why service DAOs like RaidGuild, Plaza, Yap DAO (PR DAO) and others, couldn’t become preferred providers for holding tokens.

If you're not a developer, non technical members, can offer swag shops, video services, graphic design, etc... to help build and add value to the token economy. The possibilities are limitless.

SHIPS puts the power of token economy into the hands of the community and what they choose to enable.

Everyone is now incentivized to help lift the project!

What's next

Everything is iterative, and we like building nice things for the community. So we're creating the inaugural predecessor DAO to jump start SHIPS. This will help us refine the tooling and build the right platform to service the needs of OSS projects out there.

This project is tentatively called Close Tools Dao, which is a DAO that specifically is aimed at improving the NEAR ecosystem tooling. The DAO membership mint, will be for a PFP drop, which should help us build the right tooling for SHIPS, the Near Ecosystem, and get other members involved and jump start the project to the next level.
