In recent years, trust in media has plummeted. A 2021 international study from the Reuters Institute at the University of Oxford found that only 44 percent of media consumers across 46 countries trust in the news overall. In the United States, the amount who trust the news is a shocking 29 percent.

What’s worse: media consolidation and the cannibalizing forces of Web1 and Web2 business models have left many communities with fewer or even zero outlets providing any local coverage for them to mistrust in the first place.

No matter what’s to blame, be it social media, predatory algorithms, political polarization or market forces, we believe blockchain, DAOs and other Web3 tools can repair some of the damage done.

We aim to not just restore journalism and civic life, but make them healthier than ever before.

So we’re making it our goal to buy a number of local newspapers (or radio/TV stations, or online local news outlets), supercharge them with new Web3 powers and then give them back to the communities they serve in better shape than ever.

Put simply, JournoDAO wants YOU to join us on our mission to buy a local newspaper.

If this sounds like an adventure that excites you, please join our community of pioneers, regardless of your experience in journalism or Web3.

We’re in the very early stages of charting our course right now. Our current roadmap starts with building our community of journalists, builders and all-around enthusiasts while also incubating a few Web3 media projects. We’re experimenting with new tools that have the potential to revolutionize how journalism is produced, paid for and consumed.

Our first project is piloting a new way for journalists to distribute and monetize their content with options for collaborating and pooling resources as well. We’re currently working with UkraineDAO to test this new technology with journalists reporting on the Russian invasion. This may be the first in a new suite of tools that will one day rebuild your local news outlet to better serve your community.
