Monday - Friday: The Golden Egg

Earlier this year I released a song called Monday-Friday on Sound. It was a self produced song I’d made shortly before the upload, and it took me back to a time early in my career where I carried out similar drops via Soundcloud.

I’d forgotten how much I loved this streamlined process and it sparked a level of creativity I didn’t realize I’d been missing for many years.

Mon-Fri was the origin that kicked off a half of years worth of experimentation.

Today - I’m excited to announce that I’m releasing a song with Lestronica - the winner of the Mon-Fri Golden Egg - called Monsters at Bay.

Monsters at Bay will feature 50 editions with a presale mint price of 0.04 ETH and a public mint price of 0.05 ETH.

You can collect it here.

Here’s the backstory of Monsters at Bay.

COLLABORATION

At the time there wasn’t much experimentation happening on Sound. The standard process a few months ago was: Upload a single, release 25-50 editions, and then work on the next piece of music. I was quickly becoming tired of this process, and was trying to figure out how I could build stronger relationships with some of my collectors.

Don’t get me wrong, I was floored that people were excited to collect my music, but I constantly feel that I can be doing more. With that in the back of my mind, right before I pressed mint I decided to make the Golden Egg reward a collaboration on one of my future drops.

I didn’t have any solid plans of how this would work, but I figured if the winner wasn't a musician I could send them a selection of demos and take feedback on the best ones. After picking the song I could work with them throughout the finishing process in the same manner. Alternatively if they were a musician we could finish a demo I’d started or create something entirely from scratch.

After the mint, I was hyped to find out that Les Hall from WoodstockDAO won the Golden Egg.

LESTRONICA

Les is an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist producer / composer and overall great guy. Over the course of the last few months we worked on a song called “Monsters at Bay” that I love. Working remotely was a bit challenging because I was in multiple countries without my setup, and he was away from his normal studio as well. When our schedules finally lined up and we locked in, we were able to make something awesome! My long time collaborator Clear eyes also stepped in towards the end for a final pass of added production.

This is one of my favorite things I’ve done in web3 because It’s the first time I’ve collaborated in an unconventional way, and I made a great friend through the process.

Here’s what Les had to say about the collaboration:

“As an early Sound collector, I have seen Reo emerge as one of the top web3 artists experimenting with new ways to engage the fan and collector experience. Building on the successes of Frameworks and Reo’s LNRZ label, this Golden Egg-inspired collaboration is yet another first of its kind from Reo, and it has been a privilege to join him in creating this great song.”

IN CLOSING

The Monday - Friday experiment has been one of my favorites to date and it’s inspired a lot of my projects that have come since.
